My 5 Minute Make Up Routine

A flat lay of makeup and skincare items on a light wooden surface, perfect for a quick make-up routine—featuring Carmex lip balm, Doucce lip crayon, Karl Lagerfeld eye pencil, The One mascara, Clinique foundation, and This Works cream by a Ted Baker pouch.

As a busy parent, I sometimes don’t have time to brush my hair let alone put on a full face of make up. I used to have good intentions, getting up five or ten minutes earlier each morning and mastering the art of the subtle contour, or drawing the perfect cat-eye, or at least putting on some damn concealer, but I realised that I’d rather have those extra 5 minutes in bed.

So I came up with my own 5 minute routine, to give myself a nice day look that is quick and easy to apply, without taking up too much of my time. Here is how it goes…
I start out with my primer which is This Works In Transit Camera Close-Up and is a true handbag must have. Not only is it a primer, but it’s a mask and moisturiser too, all-in-one. It glides on easily and brightens my skin, reducing redness and leaving skin looking and feeling naturally radiant.

Once that is all into my skin, I opt for a nice foundation. It has taken me a lot of time to find the right foundation for me. There are many questions when it comes to finding the right product as it is important to find the right one for your own skin. Do you want matte? Do you want full coverage or light coverage? Do you need SPF?

A woman with shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes, wearing a blue floral top, looks directly at the camera with a neutral expression, touching her hair—capturing the simplicity of a quick make-up routine against a plain, light-coloured wall.

My personally, I love Clinique Stay-Matte Oil-Free foundation which has a lightweight gel-cream texture with a mattifying finish. It controls oil breakthrough and keeps my skin shine-free, even in extreme heat like when we were abroad. The cream also covers those imperfections and uneven skin tone.
Going on to my eyes, if I want a more pronounced look, I used Karl Lagerfeld Long-Lasting Liquid Liner to give a dark outline to my eyes but usually I just opt for mascara on its own. Oriflame The ONE 5-in-1 WonderLash Mascara is my favourite to use. It lifts, curls, volumises, lengthens and separates. with a double sided brush to make sure even the short hairs under the eyes can be brushed evenly.
When it comes to my lips, it depends on what I’m doing each day. If I’ve no real plans, I’ll just swipe on a little Carmex Lip Balm to moisturise and sooth my dry cracked lips. On the other hand, if I’m wanting to use a colour on my lips, I go for Doucce Relentless Matte Lip Crayon in the Winterberry colour. Not only is this an ultra-matte finish, but it has such a deep colour and provides a high coverage whilst also making my lips feel so soft.

And that’s it. I’m not in to contouring, blushing or anything else, just a simple make up look that is easy for me to do each day and doesn’t take too long.

  1. I must admit the sole make up for work has diminished to foundation – its bad really but I have so little time after sorting out the family for the day to come. I like to have nice makeup but don't give myself enough time
