As a parent to 3 children, and someone who works from home, space can be a bit limited in our house. We have to make good use of the space we have to make sure everything we need is catered for. When I decided I needed and office for my work, it took a lot of manoeuvring around to actually find a corner of space – especially when I already had a dressing table too in the same room and couldn’t justify taking up more space.
So it got me to thinking about creating one desk for both. Somewhere I can work when I need to and use as a dressing table on a morning when I’m getting ready or drying my hair. When I showed off
my home office last year, I realised that I needed to change it up a bit, to cater for everything I would use the space for, and so here is my updated home office which doubles up as a dressing table…
I started out with the desk as the main aspect. I am using my
Abbetved desk which is from JYSK, as it is so sleek and stylish whilst also being practical with its handy drawer and plenty of space on the top. I paired this with the
Egedal light grey armchair as I want it to be a comfortable office space so that I actually want to sit in there and write. It is important that you get the perfect desk for all your home office needs so before you make your final decision you should
check out different office furniture suppliers.
Quote notebooks are my absolute fav so I usually have a few of these dotted around. And all my stationery accessories I picked up in Poundland – the copper paper clips, pencils, bulldog clips and pots – all to coordinate with my theme.
To hide away some of my costume jewellery and watches, I have used the
Blush Pink Velvet Jewellery Box on my desk. This has a blush pink velvet finish with a cool grey interior and rose gold detailing. An internal removable tray features a ring pad and 2 general purpose containers with a multi-purpose space beneath and the soft anti-scratch lining is gentle against jewellery, protecting it from damage and scratching.
I have some gorgeous prints which are personal to me. A Personalised Star Map Print which shows how the stars looked above my house when my blog was created all those years ago, and a More Than Words Framed Poem which is written by a talented poet and mentions all the things my children say about me.
The
Rose Gold Lanterns, which come as a set of 2, make a beautiful addition to any home, in any room – I think these would look lovely on each side of the bed too. These battery operated LED lights have no power cables and are just simply activated with a simple on/off switch on the base.
And to keep on the same theme, I have this set of 3 Rose Gold Mirrored Pots which are perfect for storing make up brushes, hairbrushes, and beauty products as well as my pens and pencils too. I like that the three individual pots would work split up, or arranged together to show off their geometric look.
For my jewellery that I want to show off, and not tangle in storage, I used this
Coral Jewellery Holder which is in the shape of branching coral. It’s perfect as it keeps all my bits neat and tidy and shows them off in a gorgeous manner.
I also have 2 mirrors, the
hexagonal wall mirror I picked up from Asda and it’s one I had been on the look out for, for a while, one that matched in with my design. Whereas the
Copper Pedestal Mirror I got from Dunelm Mill and they both come in handy to help me put on my make up and do my hair, without taking up too much desk space.
I have a few hair and beauty essentials dotted around my desk, but one of my must haves, is the
PK Prep Polishing Balm which is perfect for smoothing hair and getting rid of frizz. I use it every time I blow dry my hair as this highly concentrated conditioning balm protects and styles hair in one smooth swipe.
And since it’s not always often that I have a spare half hour to jump in the bath and wash my hair, the
One More Day Dry Shampoo refreshes my hair whilst being ultra-fine and lightweight to give my hair volume and texture without weighing it down. I also have out my
Radial Brush which I use whilst blow drying my hair to help dry without frizz.
Then it’s onto my makeup. Now, to be honest, a lot of my makeup comes from my
Glossybox that I receive monthly. And the sturdy boxes are perfect for storing under my desk to keep all my make up bits in too.
I don’t always wear much make up, but have found myself wanting to experiment more lately and so the subscription has really helped me gain some new items to try out, as well as my one and only make up brush. The HUDA Matte Liquid Lipstick in Girlfriend has been a favourite of mine so far and one I’ve worn ever since receiving it in my box.
Lastly, is probably something that most bloggers have on their desk at
all times, a good quality bottle of gin. I think it’s a given that use bloggers love gin and I personally love to champion any brands that are Yorkshire based, so this Brittains Premium Rhubarb Gin is one I’ve been loving recently. With a rich and smooth flavour, it’s delicate and bursts with flavour whilst not being overpowering. I real easy gin to drink and enjoy…
