Spaghetti Bolognese That Even The Kids Will Eat

Gifted
A plate of Spaghetti Bolognese on a wooden board, surrounded by easy recipe essentials: Schwartz Spaghetti Bolognese mix, chopped tomatoes, a cheese grater, block of cheese, and fresh basil—perfect for a child-friendly meal.
You know what it’s like, you plan a warm hearty meal for the whole family, salve over the stove for hours, and then the kids refuse to eat it because the veg doesn’t look nice, or there’s ‘green bits’ herbs in the sauce. Yeah, parenting is great guys, especially when you have to make 4 different sauces just to get the kids to eat the flaming thing.

So, I decided to do something different. I no longer serve veg on the side, apart from the ones they’ll actually eat, that is. Instead I opt to hide them in the sauces, so the kids are getting to goodness without knowing about it. And because they wont eat anything that has herbs in, I use a pre-made mix that has all the flavour and spice without being able to see it once it’s mixed in.
Today I’m talking about how I make spaghetti bolognese, with all the goodness hidden inside that the kids don’t know about. With this recipe, I use the Schwartz Spaghetti Bolognese Mix which combines tomato, garlic, basil and oregano for a quick and tasty pasta dish without the fuss.
A pan of cooked minced beef in tomato sauce sits on a white surface, next to a packet of Schwartz Spaghetti Bolognese seasoning mix—perfect for trying an easy Spaghetti Bolognese recipe that even children will love.
I love sachet mixes as they always pack a punch when it comes to the flavour, and you can buy this sachet mix from Tesco, on offer at four sachets for £2.00. And what I love about this is that you can mix and match this with other mixes from the Schwartz range.
Now the mix comes with a recipe on the back, which is super simple to follow. I have shaken this up a little so that my children will eat it, but I follow mainly the same steps. This recipe is to serve 4 people, although I find that it easily feeds our family of 2 adults and 3 children.
Spaghetti Bolognese Ingredients
1 sachet Schwartz Spaghetti Bolognese Recipe Mix
500g lean beef mince (I use 5% fat)
1 onion, diced
100g mushrooms
1 orange bell pepper
400g tin chopped tomatoes
300g spaghetti
Parmesan for topping
A white bowl of Spaghetti Bolognese topped with grated cheese and fresh basil sits on a wooden board with a fork beside it. A packet of spaghetti seasoning and fresh herbs are in the background, highlighting this child-friendly dish.
How To Prepare
  1. Place to spaghetti in a pan of boiling, salty water and let simmer for around 8-10 minutes.
  2. Gently fry the onions, mushrooms and pepper together until softened and then blend till smooth.
  3. Brown mince in the same frying pan for 4-5 minutes and then drain the excess liquid.
  4. Stir in sachet contents, tomatoes and the veg puree and bring to the boil, stirring it gently.
  5. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Serve immediately, and top with as much Parmesan as you can get away with.

And being honest, the kids love it. This recipe has the full flavoursome authentic Italian taste, without the fuss of the ids refusing to eat. A simple beef mince dish, that is ready in about 20 minutes.
How do you manage to get those veggies into your children’s diets? Do you have any extra hints and tips?
