Party Hard, Train Harder with the Teenage Cancer Trust

A white T-shirt with the "Teenage Cancer Trust" logo, a postcard of a young woman in a hijab, badges, a candy cane, a lollipop, and a "Merry Christmas" card—perfect for those who party hard and train harder whilst supporting a great cause.
As someone who loves Christmas, I admit that I do go all out when it comes to the month of December. I’m not exactly a big drinker (having 3 children puts a stop to that ha!) but I love food – lots of food. Especially Christmas food.
I mean, who doesn’t love to stuff their faces with mince pies, Christmas pudding and the whole of the Christmas dinner?! But after the December binge, comes January, when everyone starts the ‘new year, new me’ rubbish that no one ever sticks to, but the Teenage Cancer Trust asked me to be a part of their new campaign which I thought would work wonders for me, and help in raising funds at the same time.

Three small pies topped with star-shaped pastry are dusted with icing sugar, perfect for a Party Hard celebration. A metal sieve with extra icing sugar sits nearby on a wooden surface.
So, do you like to party in December, but regret it once January strikes? Then ease your guilt by signing up today to the party hard, train harder campaign and do 10,000 steps a day in January along with me!
I’m sure like me, everyone wants to be able to enjoy the Christmas party season – but the guilt does creep in. Then make sure to join in with me. It’s simple, you get to enjoy a guilt free eat-anything-in-sight December with no guilt, knowing you are going to work if off in the New Year.
Commit now to start your training once the party season is over and to raise a bit of money along the way – you can donate here!
A plate filled with sliced roast chicken, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, peas, broccoli, mashed carrots and swede, two nut roast patties, and a bread roll—perfect fuel to train harder for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
By taking part, you and I will be helping to support young people with cancer.  Teenage Cancer Trust here to ensure no young person faces cancer alone – and they need our support to achieve this with raising those all important funds and working to share these campaigns to get the message out there!
And, as a little thank you to all of my lovely readers and to get this post shared out there, I am giving away a £20 Amazon voucher to one lucky blog reader who helps me think of creative ways to get the 10,000 steps a day. All you have to do is enter via the Rafflecopter form below…

  1. When I work from home I know my steps are really low so maybe a quick YouTube aerobics session over lunch?

  2. I would if I could, pesky MS has mucked that one up for me. So do some steps for me too please! Put music on when tidying up so you don't mind walking or dancing to put everything away.

  3. I'm not sure how many I do a day on average?? I walk my dog twice and walk the children to school but that might only be a couple a of thousand steps? I would have to make sure I walk to the local shops more rather than getting into my car and generally make more of an effort to get out and about.

  4. I used to be really good and go out walking every day with my little boy and would always do 10,000 steps so I'd have to just get back into that!

  5. If not too far away, walk to the shops instead of going in the car. Also go for a walk round your street where you live after tea every night

  6. Take the stairs instead of the lift, walk to work, walk the dog for half an hour more, go for walks along the beach, take some shopping trips! So many things to get those steps in!

  7. Take my mums doggy on longer walks (if he lets me hehe), get off the bus a couple of stops early, walk to see my sister instead of get the bus.

  8. Here’s how I do it…
    1) march vigourously on the spot when you’re waiting for water to boil/bath to run etc
    2) park at the opposite end of every car park
    3) every time you go upstairs, go back down and then back up again!
    4) what I call “iron-a-cise” – take every ironed upstairs individually!
    5) if you watch tv, march on the spot during the ad breaks!
    It soon adds up!

  9. i do a lot more than 10,000 a day i walk in and out of work which is 50 minutes each way then work 8 hours as nurse, no sitting down for me lol, then come home to chase my toddler lol

  10. I walk to and from the supermarket each day – and when I have time also have a walk round the park.

  11. You could invest in a steps block and use it all the time for leisure, when cleaning, when organising etc. You could also put your laundry at the top of the stairs and bring one piece down at a time to dry them downstairs. You could also make treasure hunts for your children and walk around with them to get some steps in for fun! You could also open up wii fit on youtube and copy the steps in a fun way with the block. You could do some aerobics with your fave music and do the steps that way. There's alos the obvious like, walking the dog, walking everywhere in and out of the house. Hope this helped! 🙂

Wear clothes that suit the weather when you plan a walk. Then you won't mind being out in the elements and you will feel great when you get back.

  13. I probably do over 10,000 a day as I aim on my feet most of the time at work and have dogs but if I needed to do more, I'd give the dogs another walk, I'm sure they wouldn't complain.

  14. I would probably do more jobs around the house and garden that require steps and movement such as scrubbing the skirting boards, cleaning the gutter and washing down the patio.

The only way i get 10000 steps a day in is by walking the dog…getting up out of my chair at work every half hour and walking round and always using the stairs..

  16. I have recebtly started outdoor running – ok jogging/fast shuffle but im getting better 🙂 Ive signed up to do RED january which is run every day so im getting my 10,000 steps in through that at the minute x

  17. I already do it. I have to trudge 3 miles to work and then I'm on my feet for 8 hours every shift. Thanks

  18. Avoid using the car or bus when you can – it may take longer but you really do increase step count! Walk to the shops if you are not going to have a lot to carry back.

  19. Take up Zumba or join a local rambling club. Socialising plus getting steps can't be a bad thing. I joined a kayaking club but it's more sitting than walking – still met lovely people though!!

  20. Use the stairs at work, instead of the lift. I work on the 4th floor, so that's quite a lot of steps, especially as I come and go several times throughout the day.

  21. I already do that every school morning as it's 2 miles twice a day, but we are getting a puppy next week, so that will up my steps on a weekend .x

  22. Probably got a head start as I've 3 dogs and no car! I had a competition with some friends with the old manual pedometers which counted a step everytime your leg made an impact with the ground. We couldn't work out how one friend was doing so many more than the rest of us until we realised that she was driving over cobbled roads and with each jolt the pedometer counted it as a step!

  23. I go for daily walks and my Target is 5000 steps a day and i have been doing that. Planning on doing bit extra to see if i can do 10000 steps a day. I would be satisfied with 7500 just to start off with 🙂

  24. A mixture of things. I'd leave the car at home when going into our local village shops. Make more trips up and down stairs and get outdoors for a walk in the countryside

  25. I am extremely active, so usually am able to achieve between 12,000-15,000 steps a day. This is in part due to my job where I am on my feet for around 8 hours a day, but I also go out walking every day, along our beautiful local coastal path or woodlands.

  26. If I'm low on steps for the day, I take the opportunity to put on some music and dance around the living room with the kids, great fun and plenty of steps!

  27. In order to do 10,000 steps a day I would leave the car at home or purposefully park a little further away from school to get the kids involved too! My 4 year old loves to count

  28. I do my "top up shop" on foot. I usually have a walk around the shops in the town as well, I find it I'm window shopping I don't even notice all the extra steps.
