Clothing is a big part of our identity and we wear clothes to express ourselves, so it’s no surprise that there are so many ways people use fashion as a tool for empowerment. However, as Belle Lingerie’s most recent campaign shared, while 60% of the women surveyed share that they feel somewhat included in the health and beauty narrative, 19% of women feel very included and 17% say they do not feel included at all, suggesting there is still space for improvement. To help promote this, we wanted to explore how fashion can help influence female empowerment, and inspire you to be a part of it.
Freedom of Expression
Clothes are a form of expression, and the clothing we wear can be a way for us to tell our story and express who we are and what kind of person we want to be. There are many things to take inspiration from, whether it is a specific era, fictional character, or even historical character. Choosing a fashion style that suits yourself and being able to choose clothing pieces that best represents you is a fun activity that anyone can do.
Feeling Confidence
By choosing to express ourselves through clothing, we can bring pride and excitement to our everyday life. When we put the effort in to create the persona we would like to present, we are more likely to feel confident. Fashion psychology has long been an area of discussion, wearing certain colours and styles can even help you view or approach situations differently.
Body Positivity
The choice of clothes can be a significant factor in helping to express your personality and style. Whether empowerment means wearing baggy trousers or a business suit, it’s an individual choice on how they want to express themselves and feel. It can be the first step in helping women feel positive and confident in their own bodies.
Conclusion
The role of fashion in empowering women is a force to be reckoned with. The rise of the feminist movement in recent decades has been a landmark moment in history and will
continue to change how we think about ourselves. If you believe that clothing can help empower you, share what your favourite clothing pieces are and how they make you feel
