This blog post is for you if you often find yourself uttering this phrase: “there just aren’t enough hours in the day!”
If you’re looking for top tips for organising your day to make sure you’re more productive, you’re in the right place. When it comes to productivity, planning and organisation are key. I’m going to walk you through some of the best tips for organising your day that will help you to stay on track and spend your precious hours during the day in a more productive manner.
Identify your distractions and remove yourself from their path.
If you’re at home, you’ll know that there are so many distractions and temptations lying around. It’s so easy to lose your motivation and productivity without even realising you’re doing it. Take your phone for example, how many hours a day do you think you lose when you scroll mindlessly through Facebook and TikTok? I know I’m guilty of opening up apps on my phone without even thinking about it – suddenly I realise I’ve wasted 15 minutes of my life and I had no intention of even opening up an app or using my phone.
Wherever you are and whatever you’ve got planned, it’s important that you assess the situation and take note of any possible temptations and distractions. Lock your phone in a drawer until lunchtime, or hide the TV remote if you’re at home. Removing the ease of accessibility will help you to stay focused, achieve more, and have a more organised and productive day.
Wake up early and create a morning routine that suits your lifestyle.
I know I am guilty of saying things like, “Oh, I just didn’t have enough hours to get it all done today”, knowing full well I could have woken up earlier and squeezed in a few extra tasks. You’ll be surprised how many extra tasks you can fit into your day if you get up earlier.
To help make your transition from sleepyhead to organised and productive boss easier, develop a morning routine that works for you. This routine should consist of rituals that can be repeated daily until they ultimately turn into habits that aid your lifestyle. Be sure to include something that gets your body moving, like yoga or some light exercise, and a healthy and filling breakfast. If you start your morning in a positive and productive manner, the rest of the day will follow suit.
List your jobs and take on your tasks in order of importance.
It’s always a good idea to have a to-do list on the go so you know exactly what tasks and errands need to have been completed by the end of the day. Dig out those planners and diaries, use the Notes app on your phone, or even use online planners such as Trello to keep on top of all your tasks for the day.
Once you know exactly what you need to do, you can take on each task in order of importance. Get the most important and the most complex tasks done first, as this is when you’ll have the best energy levels. Completing important or complex tasks first also takes off some of the pressure.
