London is a city that never sleeps but it’s a great place for busy mums to relax, enjoy time with friends or to even get some much needed time alone. Whether you are planning a weekend in the city or just a day trip there is plenty to see and do.
If you are heading to London for a day or a weekend away and stuck for ideas here are some of the things I’d do whilst in the city.
Getting there
Firstly, I don’t drive and even if I did, I would hate to drive in and around London. For me, I would prefer to take the stress of my journey and would travel by Train. If this is your preferred method of transport too you will need to check the traintimes to London. Where I live it takes about 2 and a half hours to travel to London by train. I would spend the time reading a book or chatting with my friends if we went away together.
Hit the shops
One of my favourite things to do with my girlfriends is to shop. It’s been a while since we all last got together for a shopping trip – I can’t even think how long ago it was. I know my last shopping trip was whilst in New York and that was almost three years ago so as you can imagine it’s been a long time. I would visit Oxford Street and it would be rude not to have a quick trip to Harrods for a look around.
Lunch/afternoon tea
After a spot of shopping, why not take a break and enjoy a spot of lunch or afternoon tea with the girls? You could visit Covent Garden or Borough Market for a light bite to eat or if you fancy a luxury treat, you could make a booking for The Ritz or Claridge’s.
Visit a Spa
A visit to a spa is essential for some rest and relaxation. Why not have a pedicure, manicure or both? If that doesn’t appeal perhaps a facial or a massage is the treatment for you. Whatever you choose you will leave feeling fresh, relaxed and ready for the rest of your day.
Dinner
Why not finish your day off with a lovely dinner? There are so many cafes, restaurants and bars in the city you really will be spoilt for choice. With so much diversity at your feet be sure to try something different to your normal fast food / high street food chains.
Watch a show
I love the theatre and no trip to London would be complete without a trip to the West End to see a show. There are so many shows to see you’d be spoilt for choice. Since I was little, I have always wanted to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the Palladium. The show is still showing there and I hope that I’ll get the chance to go soon.
Are you planning a trip to London soon? If so, what are you planning to do whilst there? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
