Simple Ways to Update Your Wardrobe Ready for the Summer

The weather has been beautiful the past couple of weeks, hasn’t it? I’ve almost made it to the bottom of my washing basket which is unheard of this early in the year but I’m not complaining. It has made me realise though that I need to update my wardrobe from all my winter warmers to my summer clothes soon though. I’m still on the healthy eating and exercise plan and although I’ve not lost as much weight as I wanted, I am on the right path.
If like me, you need to update your wardrobe for the warmer weather don’t despair it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune and you don’t need to spend hours trapsing around the shops if you don’t want to. We’re a few months off the really hot summer weather so there’s no need to panic but if you are thinking about it here are a few things to consider.
Where to Buy
If you’re on a budget, it can be hard to justify buying clothes for anyone in the family let alone yourself. You may think that buying women’s clothing is something that can wait especially if you’re actively losing weight or in between sizes. I know sometimes you can make do but other times you need new clothes and you shouldn’t feel bad buying yourself new things too. If you can, look in charity shops and at online marketplaces.
If you fancy a shopping trip why not make a day or weekend of it? Plan a trip with the girls – a little pampering, a spot of lunch and then a good shopping spree is never a bad thing. It’s always good to get a second opinion and if you don’t end up buying anything at least you’ve had a great time with your friends.
Buy a number of Staple Items
The great thing about your summer wardrobe is that you don’t need a huge amount of clothes. Mix and match them up. The same pair of shorts can be worn with different tops to give a totally different look.
Everyday Clothing – I find in the summer months I alternate between shorts, cropped jeans, string vests and strapless tops. If the weather is nice, I spend 90% of my time in the garden working or relaxing so I tend to go for comfortable clothing rather than fashionable. I always have a thin cardigan too in case it gets a little chilly, it’s perfect for those evenings sat in the garden with my kindle and cup of tea or glass of fizz.
Something Special – Everyone seems to have their special occasions in the summer months. In our family alone there is at least two weddings and a christening already booked in. We always go to the races at least once in the summer too as our local racecourse has theme nights – our favourite is the 80’s night where they usually have an 80s icon or band providing entertainment. I always have at least one dress in my wardrobe in case such an occasion should arise. I don’t know about you, but I love that there are so many different dresses for women available in the summer months. Again, I try to buy something that is flattering but doesn’t cling too much as it can make a long hot day unpleasant. This year I will be adding at least one new maxi dress to my collection.
Footwear – I have had the same pair of flipflops for the last 5 or so years now. They cost me £5 from the local designer outlet and they are the comfiest summer shoes I have ever owned. I spend most of the summer in bare feet but if I’m out and about you’ll find me in ballet pumps, sandals and if I’m exercising my trainers.
Accessories – You don’t need to change your accessories because the season / fashion changes. I must be honest and say I’m one of those girls who has a number of handbags that can be used for any occasion. They’re all black or grey and come in a variety of sizes. They’re perfect for dates, day trips, special occasions or normal day use.
When will you be updating your wardrobe ready for the summer?
