Never Give Up On Your Hobbies

Okay, everyone has their favourite hobby, be that watching or playing football, gymnastics, writing, whatever. But I’ve found that mine started out as something and nothing and became my favourite hobby over night.
I enter competitions…
And usually when I tell people that I get the groan of how no one wins those things and they’re just a con. But I’m here to tell you that it’s not true at all and that everyone should give it a go.

A laptop on a wooden desk displays a blog titled "Adventures of a Yorkshire Mum," sharing motivation and hobbies. Beside the laptop are a decorative lantern, a lit candle, and a white jug holding artificial white and blue flowers.

Overall, I’ve been entering competitions online for 8 years. And like I said, I just started one day out of the blue. I saw a website offering a freebie of a baby dummy – T was a newborn at the time – and I signed up. Upon doing this, I was thrust to their Facebook page which also had some competitions.
And that was it, I was hooked.
I’d spend my spare time entering as many as I could find and have won some amazing, and weird prizes over the years. From an expensive washing machine and a laptop to wining a years supply of nappies and a tote bag. It’s like a weird thrill, even when you only win something small and it hooks you back in.
I’d watch as a TNT van arrived on the street and would curtain twitch to see if they were bringing anything to me. Getting all excited when I saw him opening the gate and wondering what I’d be opening today. Would it be something for the kids, or a treat for me. All my Christmases would come at once when a biggy arrived.
And you know what my biggest win was. Not a competition and not actually a win. But entering competitions made me stumble upon blogs. I got to reading them. Entering their competitions and started wondering about how it’d be great to run my own. So that’s what I did. And now, 5 years after opening it up on blogger, Adventures of a Yorkshire Mum is still here, and it’s something that brings me even more joy!
So never give up on that hobby. Even if others don’t understand it, they don’t get it, does it matter. As long as you’re happy, that’s the most important thing.

  1. Wow, that's a great story! It's definitely true that entering competitions has brought me to a much wider range of blogs and businesses than I ever would have found otherwise. It does broaden your online horizons, that's for sure!
