Be kind To Yourself Mama

We all know that once you become a parent, normal life goes out the window. No longer do you have time to do all those little things that you always thought were irrelevant. I mean, most of the time I can’t go to the toilet in peace let alone have a bath without one of the sprogs jumping in with me.
As life changes, all focus becomes our children, and we go out of the window. It’s like we no longer matter, and that shouldn’t be. We shouldn’t just be okay with that. Yes, I am a mum, but I’m also a person too. If you focus all of yourself on your children then you will just burn out. It will all become too much.
Three young boys stand indoors against a light wall. The boy on the left wears a black Superman shirt, the middle wears a dark polo, and the right boy flashes a peace sign—reminding us to be kind to yourself, even with odd socks.
I think it’s so important to think about ourselves sometimes and do something we love. It might not be getting a holiday without the stress of packing, and travelling with children, but even the small things can make all the difference.
I feel it more so now it’s the school holidays. It feels like I’m with my children 24/7 and it doesn’t help that I work from home. I find myself resenting the fact that my husband gets to go out to work and gets some space from the home.
And I hate that. It’s not his fault, and it’s not the children’s fault either. But sometimes, it does get me down. It seems that my husband can tell when I’m at breaking point too as he’ll always make a fuss of taking the children out for a bit whilst I get a couple of hours to myself.
A bubble-filled bath is in the foreground. On the bath edge, there is a wine bottle and a glass of white wine against a white tiled wall—a perfect reminder, mum, to be kind to yourself and unwind.
Running the bubbliest bubble bath for me and putting out my favourite essential oils from Neal’s Yard Remedies. Sometimes even a cheeky bottle of Prosecco appears too. It’s like I actually get to have a bath with no toys, no children and no rush. And even though it’s just a bath, it feels like a whole weight has been lifted.
I can read a book, or reads some of my favourite blogs, or just do nothing. I can have a few hours with just myself, just my own thoughts, just me. And you know what, it might only be for a short time, but it just gives me that push, that help to keep going, a piece of myself back.
And then I’m ready to be a mama again, ready for wherever that takes me…

  1. I never take time out for myself, I always have a quick shower while my children are in bed at night sleeping, and when I wake up I'm straight into mummy mode, like you my partner works and I feel like he gets a break, he says he doesn't as work is stressful, but when he's home he puts his feet up and relaxes while I still run around after everyone, I wouldn't change it for the world but a little me time would be amazing xxx

  2. It is so important to have me time and I make sure that I do. If the family want me to keep functioning as a happy thoughtful and kind human being they know to let me be when I ask!

  3. I don't think I would cope without a little me time. Kids are constantly on the go and by the end of the day I feel like I have run 2 marathons so I think me time is extremely important to save my sanity.
