Why Road Trip Holidays Are The Best Way To See Europe

A winding mountain road in Europe passes through lush green hills with a small lake and scattered buildings, surrounded by tall, rugged peaks under a partly cloudy sky.
When you’re a commuter, driving can become a chore, but it doesn’t need to be. It can be a brilliant way to explore a landscape and enjoy the sights as you go. And a great way to view those sights that you’d usually miss by flying or by whizzing past by train.
Europe is home to some of the most iconic drives the world has to offer and The Scenic Edit road trip guide explores six of the most scenic routes. Covering the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse in Austria, right to the road from Spoleto to Norcia in Italy.

I was checking out the above guide by Kwik Fit and just lusted after visiting each and every one of them. Not only does travelling to different countries bring new ways to educate children in different cultures, but shows them the world in ways that staying at home just can’t do.
Europe is home to some of the most iconic road trips around the world and some of the most picturesque destinations the planet has to offer. Such as Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse which is a 48km stretch with some of the worlds must see views. Or Route 500 in Germany is known as one of Germany’s oldest and most treasured roads.
A snow-covered mountain in Europe under a clear blue sky, with visible dark rock layers and streaks where the snow has melted, revealing the rugged terrain.
But for me, the best part of Europe is right back here in England, Yorkshire to be exact. With its variety of landscapes, picturesque villages and undulating roads, the county of Yorkshire is a haven for lovers of the great outdoors.
The Kirkby Lonsdale to Grassington drive is a favourite of mine. Offering picturesque views of the Yorkshire countryside and the prominent peak Ingleborough, finishing off surrounded by gorgeous limestone scenery. The winding roads are a great drive and the perfect day out to immerse yourself in the North of England.
I am such a lover of travelling, and I think driving holidays will be on the agenda more once the kids are a little older and can take being in the car for longer journeys. I think it’s so important for children to see our landscape in every light – sun and sand, and countryside and mountains…

  1. It's a wonderful way to explore. My husband is a photographer and he loves to drive. It allows him to find new destinations to photograph whilst I get to see some beautiful scenery and wonderful new places.
