We are a family of gamers. I love to play on my Xbox, my husband has a PC and the boys each have a console of their own too. We are short on space in our house so we don’t have a designated room for gaming, but it is on our list of must haves for when/if we move in the future.
A gaming set up
So, I say a set up. It would probably be more than one set if I’m being honest. Matthew already has his gaming PC, but he would love a new desk and chair, it would need to be big enough to house his speakers, keyboard, headset, tower and a bigger monitor. Our youngest has also said he would like a gaming PC in the future so the desk would need to be big enough for two computers, speakers, keyboards, towers and monitors or else it would mean two desks and I’m not sure we’d ever have the space for that.
Refreshments
I asked my husband what the one thing he would want in a gaming room was, and he said a fridge. I gave him the “you can’t be serious look” that only a wife can give her husband, but his reasoning made sense. Apparently, if you’re in the middle of a game and you want a drink it would be easier to get one from the fridge in the same room rather than going to the kitchen. Well, yes, I suppose that is true, but I still gave him an eye roll.
Comfy furniture
The comfy furniture would be for use by me and my other sons as we play games on the Xbox and PS4 (although this is soon to be upgraded to a PS5). I know we could have them hooked up to the PC monitors but personally, I’d have a TV wall mounted to save on space and something comfy to sit on whilst I played. My idea of comfy furniture would be an oversized bean bag chair or even a bean bag sofa with a footrest, perhaps from a company like Big Bertha. It would be perfect for chilling out whilst fighting Zombies in CoD or even whilst watching a film or two with a blanket and hot chocolate.
New Flooring
If we were creating a room especially for gaming then I would ensure we decorated the room first. Once painted I would have new flooring laid. Although I love a nice thick carpet, I think Engineered Wood Flooring would be better for a gaming room as it would mean gaming chairs could move easier on the flooring and it would be easier to keep clean and dust free.
Accessories
Although I’m not sure the room would need brightening up much (my husband’s computer is lit like a Christmas tree thanks to RGB lighting) it would be great to have lighting and/or lights that are games focused. Have you seen the Super Mario mushroom and yellow block lights? They are awesome in my opinion. I would also add some game themed ornaments and a couple of posters of some of our favourite games and/or characters too. I would also ensure that there is a smart speaker in the room so that I could listen to my music – not often but sometimes I like to listen to some of my favourite songs whilst enjoying my gaming.
