With regular schools and private schools offering a number of different subjects and educational experiences, there’s nothing quite like heading to a theatre school. Not only is there a more clear focus dedicated to theatre studies, dancing and drama production, but there is a more tailored approach to many subjects studied there.
If you’re wondering whether a theatre school is the right choice for your child, here are some considerations you may have before you decide.
Does your child show an interest in more than just drama?
Drama, on its own, is a subject taught in every school across the UK. In some schools, it may go further than that through media studies or theatre production. It’s something that not all schools will provide, however, so if you want your child to study more than just performing arts then a theatre school would be the best option.
Theatre schools go into more detail. There are not just lessons on acting, but there are also musical theatre, singing lessons, dance and fitness classes to prepare for. There’s a lot more variety at a theatre school along with the compulsory subjects that all students will learn during their time in school.

It may be an odd question to think about, but there are a lot of ways that technology helps in theatre schools. Your child will have the chance to look into music production, sampling, and setting up areas for a production, such as working on lighting and scene setting. A lot of this requires your child to look into the best tech and setups recommended by teachers and their teams.
Does your child love the world of art?
Art, in its simplest form, is about the freedom and expression of a particular style. This also extends to set design, prop making, creating art backgrounds and all sorts of things that will benefit your child’s level of creativity. It means your child has a lot to explore all in one place which will help with their confidence and self-esteem.
Your child’s future career prospects
It’s not the end of the world if your child isn’t sure about what they want to study or do as a full time career. But at least with a theatre school, there is a clear path that your child can go down and explore. Your child will still be learning the essential subjects to help them progress through GCSE and A Level, but with their theatre experience, it will land them in good stead early on.
