Reading – One Way to Bond with Your Baby

Being a parent isn’t always easy, and some people feel overwhelmed, whether it’s their first baby or their fifth. After all, no two babies are the same, and what works for one might not work for another.

These days, there seems to be so much pressure to be the perfect parent, especially when all you see on social media is the best of everything. It’s important to know that you are not alone in feeling like this and that there is no such thing as perfect.

There are a few things you can do if you are feeling that the bond you share with your baby needs a little help. Whether it’s going for a walk, playing with toys, watching a TV programme, or reading a book, spending time together is going to help your bond grow. If you have other children, it can be hard to find the time to spend time with just one of them I know this being a mum of three boys. But while others are at school or napping (if they’re still small too), make the most of your time together.

If you enjoy reading, you could introduce your baby to books from an early age – reading out loud while pregnant would be a great way to share your love of books with them. Once a baby is born, reading to them even while they sleep is another great way to spend time bonding. You don’t need to read huge books; fairy tales, poems, and short stories are great if you’re short on time. Reading to your baby helps them develop their language skills, learn to listen, and much more.

To get your baby interested in reading as they grow, why not purchase them soft books that are designed to stimulate their fine motor skills and hold their attention for a short period of time? Little Bear’s Busy Day from Over the Rainbow Books would be the perfect book for a little one. It has pages that rustle when touched, a squeaker in the bear’s belly, and felt tabs throughout the story. It is machine washable and is sure to keep your little one entertained time and time again.

If your little one is a little older and already enjoys a story, Wonderland Explorers is sure to be a hit at bedtime or anytime that a story is on offer. Each page has windows and flaps to lift and look through. The pages are brightly coloured and made from thick card to ensure they won’t be easily torn by little hands who aren’t yet used to books with paper pages.

Do you like reading with your little one? If so, I’d love to hear about the books you read to them in the comments below.
