When it comes to organising your home, work, and kids lives, personalised items can come in handy to make finding things and storing things much easier, or just to have a little fun with. Having a look online though, personalised items can be quite pricey and then can put people off from wanting to shell out, especially when you’re on a budget.
But did you know, you can personalise most items yourself for a fraction of the cost? And because you’ve done it yourself, that makes it even more personalised, doesn’t it! I thought I’d put together a post, showing just what you can personalise yourself. So, here are a few ways you can use personalised items in your home, all made by yourself…
For Children
Toy Storage
I don’t know about you, but I have storage all over the place with different toys, for each child, and always struggle to remember what goes in which box, and whose is whose. It’s actually not that difficult to go online, find a nice label that suits, and personalise them, to go on the front of each toy box. You can search for printable labels, and a whole range will come in, fairly inexpensive too. Just use a cute and playful font, maybe try rainbow colours, are ones that match the room they’re in. You could even incorporate imagery for what is in each storage area. Cars, dolls, trains, whatever suits.
Children’s Party Invites
One thing I’ve found, is that party invites are always expensive, and usually fairly rubbish. What’s more, they’re so easy to make yourself. You can even find printable designs online that can be fully personalised an will look much better, and be so much more special, than bought ones. Plus, if you create your own, personalise them to your child, you can also find matching party accessories too, such as bunting, party bags, table placements, so your whole party can be personalised for your child.
Colouring Pages
This is actually one that could really be handy at the moment as we’re in our 3rd lockdown. Colouring books can become so mundane, samey and boring during lockdown, also being near on impossible to get your hands on. You can actually personalise your own online and print them out, so your children can colour in whatever their heart desires. Their favourite cartoon character, a calming pattern, or even their own name which can then be displayed in the bedroom as a memento on something they have done during lockdown.
Crafty Homework Help
When it comes to homework, being crafty can sometimes be hard work when you’ve no inspiration. But a quick look online and there are plenty of ways you can create your very own personal art piece. Site which offer downloadable decoupage sheets, guides, and printable patterns, so that you can made something personal to yourself.
For The Home
Gallery Wall
No doubt you’ve scrolled on Instagram or Pinterest and noticed the beautiful gallery walls that people are currently showing off. Different pictures of varying designs, quotes and sizes, all placed strategically to create an aesthetic main wall to be proud of. This is something I was for behind my dressing table in my bedroom. When I looked into it though, the prices of images can become way expensive. My tip – Create your own. Quote pictures are so easy to make, just download a suitable font, write the quote you want and print it out. You can come by frames fairly cheaply to create your very own gallery wall.
Travel Scrapbook
I capture so much imagery when we’re away, and never have anywhere to store them all. I mean, my Google Drive is so packed full of photos, but it’s just not the same as flicking through an album. The cost of creating a photo scrapbook can be quite high though so I opt to make my own, which makes it even more special. Just a simple template downloads online, crop the photos into place and print out pages at a time. Fastening them together with ribbon, or in a folder. What’s more, because you’ve done it yourself, you get to choose the layout, design and any text that needs adding so you can describe the feelings you get from each image.
Personalised crockery
I love a personalised mug. I’m not one for matching sets and boring patterns. I love a bit of design, flair, and personalisation. There are many places when you can upload your design, and have a mug made with your exact creation on it. It’s just a case of creating a mug mockup and then sending it over to be etched into the mug. This means you can have just about anything of your mugs. Your own pictures, beautiful quotes, or rude writing, whatever you want really.
Kitchen Storage
Storage jars in the kitchen is a big thing for me. I have so many spices, herbs and mixes, that I sometimes get mixed up between which is which. I’m not a fan of keeping things in their shop bought jars as they’re always so ugly looking, and prefer to use my own jars. What I do now, is create fancy labels online and print them out to place on each jar. Having this personalised label means I can create one for each jar, each bit of storage, so that I always know what I’m getting when I open the cupboard.
Greetings Cards
Personalised cards are my absolute favourite. I spend so long online, designing cards for each and every member of my family. For birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, you name it, I’ve designed a card for it. And during lockdown this really came in handy. When we couldn’t just pop to the card shop and buy a card for a special day. It got to creating my own. I could add images to suit the recipient, write their name for the full personalisation, and even add funny text to adult cards. I find that people love this personalised touch a lot more too.
