Looking After Your Own Health As A Busy Parent

We all know just how life can take over when you’re a parent and all those little jobs can be forgotten. And most of the time, it’s us parent that lose out as we put ourselves last on the agenda. Kids clothing are more important than our own, making sure the kids have all their favourite foods, and forgetting our own things whilst out.
We should actually be making sure that we’re not only looking after our children, but we’re taking care of ourselves too. As a parent, you can only do so much and our health is so important. Any and every parent can burn out when they’re not focusing on themselves once in a while. Being a parent isn’t always easy. It can feel hard if you’re tired, stressed and unhappy.

A person is lying on their back on a bed, legs extended and slightly raised—a moment of self-care as sunlight streams through the window behind them, offering a peaceful pause for even the busiest parent. Their face is out of focus.
Try to set aside time for yourself
If you get a break to relax then you are more likely to be able to cope with everything. Take 10 minutes of your day to have a bath, read a magazine or talk to a friend. Just don’t spend time feeling guilty about the jobs that should be done when your child is asleep. Use some of this time to relax and do something you enjoy. Cleaning can be done any time but mum and dad are most important.
Saying No
Sometimes there are things on your to-do list that are just not critical to the life of your family. Your needs come above household chores, phone calls that are endless with needy friends, or stocking up on cupboard foods. Eliminating the unessential responsibilities off your list will not only create some extra time and space, it will also lighten the burden you’re feeling to keep up with it. Ordering shopping online can seriously free up some of that much needed time!
Be Prepared In Advance
We know that we don’t have much time to spend on ourselves but there’s nothing worse than running out of your tablets, or forgetting to pick up a prescription. The NHS repeat prescription service from Pharmacy2U is a quick and easy way to get your medicines and they are delivered straight to your door so not more rushing round to sort them.
And probably to most important…
Get Sleep
This is certainly not new wisdom by far, but it’s often avoided by busy parents. Sleep is essential to you staying healthy and being able to be at your best. So go get some of those extra zzz’s whilst you can…

  1. I am a busy mum of three, I never stop to take me for myself, my clothes all have holes or bleach stains in but I begrudge buying anything for myself, and as for sleep I had the worst night sleep ever last night with my 5 year and 7 month old daughters both in my bed xXx
