Learning Spanish – The Most Popular Words

Every day, more and more people are trying to learn to speak other languages. English has consistently been chosen by all who are not native speakers, as it is said that it is the world language. Even though it is the most popular language in terms of learning, there are other languages, which, nowadays, have almost reached the top.

These days, one of those languages, is Spanish. Surprisingly, it is the second most spoken language in the world. This fact has caused many people to start thinking about learning a language, as it would be helpful in both their personal and professional lives. Moreover, it is said that to this day, more than 500 million people speak Spanish. Thus, its popularity has provided the language with a visibility it had not enjoyed before. This may be because many more Spanish-speaking people are becoming part of the world stage, maybe because of all the new Spanish-speaking artists; or perhaps because the internet has broadened people’s minds and ideas regarding globalization, possibly because of the professional area in which people are involved may require a good domain of the Spanish language to be hired.

People, human beings, can speak since childhood. For some, it may be challenging to acquire the ability to say, but the critical aspect of this is that we are born with this ability; and for people to be able to produce it, it is necessary to practice it, to stimulate it. Thus, it is possible to think that everyone should be able to learn a new language. Some people decide to travel to specific places to take Spanish Classes like Barcelona; others choose to learn Spanish by listening to music or reading books; others decide to take a Spanish Course online.

Additionally, it is necessary to bear in mind that despite Spanish being only one type of language, there are differences in the language depending on the area in which it is spoken. So, let’s say that the Spanish in Spain will not be the same as the Spanish spoken in Mexico or Argentina; that is, the meaning of a word in Spanish in Spain will be different from the meaning of the Spanish in Argentina, the most well-known example regarding the difference between both languages is the word: “coger”. Therefore, it is highly recommended that learners pay attention to the context and to whom they are talking or writing, as the person in front of them may not understand what they are saying. As a result, Spanish may be considered a complex subject to learn, but this is not so; it is difficult but not impossible to achieve. Some teachers are more than well prepared to teach and get their students involved in their classes, with the activities proposed and the resources offered by the schools they decide to attend.

Spanish language characteristics

As sometime before, it was said that not many native English-speaking persons were willing to learn Spanish. However, as the Spanish language has become more popular, nowadays, students or people who are about to learn Spanish can have more contact with the language. Even though their efforts not to go too deeply into the learning of the Hispanic language, Spanish has slowly overtaken the scenario, and, as a result, more than 200 words in Spanish are known all over the world. Fortunately, all these have served the language to be seen and noticed in parts of the world, where there were people who did not even think of the chance of acquiring the language of an unknown culture.

Regarding those most famous words in Spanish, students may find some words that may be similar or have the same category as the category in their native language. The Real Academia Española is an institution entirely and solely dedicated to creating, evaluating, and rethinking the rules of the grammar or orthography of the language.

They are the rulers of the language; they are the ones who create the dictionaries of this language and who allow or permit the new forms of the language to become part of it, even if they are ungrammatical. It was this critical institution the one who investigated those most spoken words, it has a corpus of data that had registered 93000 words, and due to this corpus, it was possible to find out the most frequently used terms in the Spanish language, thanks to the 140000 documents and 154 million texts registered in this corpus.

  • In the first group or category of words, we may be able to find articles such as: “de”, “el”, “la”, “las”, “le”, etc., which in English can be summarized into the article “the”.
  • Another group of words are the prepositions, such as: “a”, “ante”, “entre”, “sobre”, “sin”, etc.; which in English are “before”, “over”, “between”, “without”; these are generally called function words, that is, these words help us to make the language work, to make the language more coherent and also more understandable.
  • Other content words are more meaningful as regards their implication: “presidenta”, “trabajo”, “madre”, “momento”, “años”; these are nouns which in English will be: “president”, “job,”, “mother”, “moment”, “years”.
  • In addition, some verbs are part of the group of the most famous two hundred words in Spanish and are: “puede”, “dijo”, “hace”, “estaba”, “ver”, “están”, “tienen”, etc., which in English are: “can”, “said”, “do”, “was”, “see”, “our”, “have”.

These are some of the examples that allow many people to believe that this is a result of Spanish becoming the second most spoken language. However, these are familiar words, let’s say, the most used words in the language, as you may see in the translation of all those terms; those words in English, the translated ones, are also the most common and well-known for non-natives around the world, that is, that there is a coincidence in this aspect.

Learning a language is not as easy as we may find it in everyday life, so every learner must analyze and investigate the kind of language they will be willing to acquire and put into practice.
