Growing Your Own Indoor Herb Garden

Herbs can easily be grown indoors as long as you kick off on the right foot. The key to creating a successful indoor herb garden is understanding each of the plants requirements and what they need.
The ideal setting for an indoor herb garden is the kitchen, where you can snip fresh herbs and use them in dishes with ease. That’s why you can grow herbs indoors where ever you live – whether that’s in a house or flat, as long as you have a sunny room, you can get growing.

Give Them Light
To grow well indoors, herbs need as much natural light as possible so it’s best to find the sunniest part of the house, ideally near a window, to place them. Place them in a sunny spot near a window that faces south and receives at least 6 hours of sun daily. Some herbs that require less light, like mint, parsley, and thyme, can also grow well in west-facing windows.
Drain Them Well
One of the easiest way to damage a herb plant, is to let them sit in water so the roots will rot so be sure to use a saucer, liner, or drain pan under the pot to catch water, and protect your surface too, so that your herbs don’t become waterlogged.
Heat Them Up?
As the opposite of what most people think, herbs don’t always need to be in the hottest place to thrive. Indoor herbs prefer the same temperatures that most people do, so as long as you keep foliage from touching glass, herbs will grow, even in the cooler temperatures.
When To Sow And Harvest
Even though many herbs can be easily grown indoors, each one has their own ideal sowing and harvesting times. March and April are usually the best times to sow most herbs. Although keep in mind that thyme will definitely need to be planted during this time, whereas herbs such as dill can be planted any time from March until July to get a full bloom but will only be harvestable for a couple of month.
