Cooking Heartwarming Family Favourites With TJ Hughes

A bowl of stew with vegetables, sausage slices, and a scone sits beside a spoon and a Daewoo slow cooker on a light wooden surface—one of those family favourite meal ideas perfect for sharing. The cooker's lid is off, revealing food inside; its timer reads 00:24.
There’s nothing better than a home cooked meal. Whether you’re sitting down with family or expecting a few close friends, the uncomplicated family-style dinners are sure to please everyone. From cosy casseroles to veggie soups, there are so many choices, and heartwarming ones are a winner when it comes to Autumn and Winter dishes.
This month I’ve been working with TJ Hughes to show how you can make some heartwarming meals with ease, thanks to some of the kitchen electricals they have on offer, and all the accessories that go with it.

Cooking meals from scratch each day can be a bit of a chore which is the reason that I love the idea of slow cookers – just being able to pack everything into that one pot, and switch it on, to be ready hours later when you’re ready to eat it.

The Daewoo 4.5 Litre Digital Slow Cooker is ideal for our family of 5 as it is huge and can cook up some big portions. We even manage to box up some leftovers and freeze for a meal another day. Its functions are easy to operate and the instructions are easy to follow. They even have a few recipes inside if you’re not sure what to try first.
Slow cooker beef and ale casserole with dumplings
Ingredients
500g diced beef steak
2 tbsp. olive oil
1 large sliced onion
750 ml beef stock
1 bay leaf
3 sprigs fresh thyme
2 garlic cloves, pressed
2 large carrots, cut into chunks
Half swede, cubed
200g peas
Instructions
Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry meat until browned all over. Remove with a slotted spoon to the slow cooker. Add the stock to the pan, scraping up brown bits (that’s where the flavour is!).
A close-up of a slow cooker filled with chopped beef, sliced carrots, green peas, and diced potatoes—one of those family favourite meal ideas everyone will love.
Pour the stock into the slow cooker slowly and mix well with the beef. Mix in the onions, peas, carrots and swede. Finally stir in the bay leaf and thyme, and then season to taste. Cover with a lid and cook on high for 4hr.
For the Dumplings
100g plain flour
1 tsp. baking powder
50g butter
1 tbsp. fresh parsley, finely chopped
Mix all ingredients in a bowl with plenty of seasoning, then sprinkle over 1–2tbsp water to bring the dough together. Roll into enough balls and dot around stew leaving a gap between them as they will expand. Cover again with the lid and cook for a further 1hr.
A bowl of stew with vegetables, sausage slices, and a scone on top sits next to a slow cooker filled with more stew and a ladle, on a white wooden surface—a perfect addition to your family favourite meal ideas. A slotted spoon is nearby.
Easy Omelettes
But then, if a big meal isn’t on the cards, and you want a fast lunch without the fuss, then the Daewoo Deep Fill Omelette Maker could be ideal for making quick meals, in a flash. Again, like the slow cooker, this comes with instructions and recipes to try, but to be honest, it is so easy that you can really give anything a try in here.
With divided omelette trays, you can make 2 omelettes easily with this. It’s basically just a case of choosing what you want in yours. Each side holds 2 eggs, mixed with a variety of extras. One side I cooked cheese and ham, and the other was cheese and mushroom.
A Daewoo waffle maker sits on a white wooden surface next to a metal spoon, a grater with cheese, and scattered chopped spring onions—perfect for trying out new family favourite meal ideas.
Just mix your ingredients together whilst the omelette maker warms up, give it a little spray with oil, and then pop your mixture in. Shut the lid and cook for around 10 minutes for the most amazing, and fluffy omelettes you will ever try.
The best thing about the omelette maker is that it’s so versatile. You can try so many different items in your eggs, from veg or meat. You can even just spray a little oil in the bottom and then pop one egg in which would then be fried, if you prefer your eggs that way.
A folded omelette in a sandwich maker sits open next to a spoon and cheese grater on a white wooden surface. A plate with rocket and another omelette is nearby, making this scene perfect for family favourite meal ideas. Chopped chives are scattered around.
Throughout making both meals, I used a range of Morphy Richards kitchen utensils. From the garlic press and Y slicer for prepping the veg in the slow cooker. To grating cheese for the omelette using the Morphy Richards grater and using the spoon to easily remove the omelette when it was ready.
I think these kitchen electricals really do make a difference if you’re a busy parent. We no longer have time to stand around getting every last meal ready, so having these products which means we can prep and then leave them means we get to spend less time in the kitchen and more with the family.
