Choosing to wear what you like rather than what is fashionable isn’t always an easy task. There is a lot of pressure for people to conform and play it safe with what they wear. To wear what the current fashion styles are, and with societies around the world have set trends that come in and out of popularity.
Of course, though, not everyone wants to fit into the same category when it comes to women’s clothing – I certainly don’t anyway. You can express yourself through your clothing and give people something new to look at in the process. And it doesn’t need to be fashionable and stand-out-ish, but as long as you choose what you like, that’s all that matters.
Getting Inspired
Looking for inspiration is always a good idea when you’re trying to find your own fashion statement. Websites like Instagram and Pinterest are packed to the brim with images of clothing, making it nice and easy to find styles that you like.
Leather Love
From dresses to tops to shackets (yes, they’re a thing), leather is absolutely everywhere right now. Leather can be part of your signature style without making you look like a rock chic. From leather look leggings and tops, to the important jacket. You can even wear leather on leather. When wearing more than one item of leather, combining suede with plain leather is the safest way because of the different textures and look it gives you.
Use Textures
Much like other mediums, different textures can also have an impact on your outfit and really make it pop. Metallics will add a shine that looks luxurious, while fabrics like silk and velvet will be instantly recognisable. Even the humble loungewear set can look stunning if you pick the right one for you. I like to dress down with clothing and then use plenty of accessories to incorporate different materials and textures. This doesn’t just change the way your outfit looks, though, it will also change the way it feels.
