A Resolution You Should Make In The New Year

New Years Resolutions always seem to be the same things every year – eat less, move more, do more. But they always seem to be unobtainable. I mean, who really thinks that they wont eat chocolate, I couldn’t give it up for one month never mind a whole year.
With 2018 around the corner and a bunch of unrealistic New Years resolutions coming our way, I think it’s about time that we start thinking about New Years resolutions that we can keep. No more of this New Year, New Me rubbish. Just the same old us, but with new goals to look after ourselves better.

Doing something for yourself that is really worthwhile whilst being obtainable for you. There’s no point me saying I’ll get in shape this New Year when I already got to the gym three times a week, and then treat myself for all that hard work, with a take-away!
Spacious, elegant interior with white railings, arched doorways, a grand chandelier, stained glass windows at the far end for stunning effect, and beige sofas along the walls on a dark wooden floor.
So, I’m being pro-active… For me, my New Years resolutions is to look after my dental health and seek treatment to help my hang-ups about my mouth and teeth.
As a child, I suffered with a condition called molar incisor hypomineralisation. This is a tooth condition where enamel and dentine are softer than normal. This lead to early dental decay and can make it more difficult to numb the teeth with a local anaesthetic for dental treatment. I found this out when having to have a tooth pulled out when my braces were getting fitted and felt the whole thing!
It is thought to be caused by a disturbance in tooth development around the time of birth or in the first few years of life. And although the cause of it is not fully understood, severe childhood illnesses, high fevers, or a traumatic birth period have all been suggested as possible causes.
As someone who is very self-conscious about this, I take my dental health very importantly now and I think 2018 is the year that I seek treatment for my insecurities in the tooth department. I’ve been taking a look at a Dentist in Halifax and found a dental practice located in the outsides of Halifax, in a former church, which gives it a very unique look.
A tall stone church tower with a large clock, viewed from below against a clear blue sky. Bare tree branches frame the foreground, adding striking definition to the scene.
I saw that they would be able to treat my molar incisor hypomineralisation. There are many ways it can be treated. Through acid pumice microabrasion, resin infiltrant and then tooth whitening to improve the appearance.
Also maintaining it with a fluoride varnish which is painted onto the teeth on a three monthly basis. This can also help to reduce the chance of enamel breakdown or decay developing so would help in the long run too.
So this New Year, I wont be promising to lose weight, eat less or move more. I’ll be taking care of something that matters to me, and my dental health!
