Winter nights are long and cold, and it seems like a long time before the lighter nights and fairer weather of spring returns especially once Christmas and the New Year have been and gone.
We spend more time in our homes during the winter months, so it’s important that its warm, comfortable, and inviting.
On cold evenings, I love nothing better than a lovely, warm bath followed by snuggling up in a blanket with a hot chocolate, my Kindle, and a film on in the background. Sometimes I’ll watch downstairs; other times I’ll take my hot chocolate to bed and get comfy in my bed – I won’t lie I love these nights the best as I feel more relaxed and sleep better too.
If you’re looking for ways to make your bedroom cosy this winter, here are some of my suggestions.
Decorate your room
If your bedroom needs some TLC, a lick of paint will make the room look and feel cosier. The winter months are a great time to decorate, as many of us spend more time at home. If you can decorate when you have a spare weekend or some time at home so that you don’t have to rush and you can decorate the room how you want.
New furniture
If you’ve decorated and you still feel that your room is missing something why not treat yourself to some new bedroom furniture. A new bed and mattress is a great way to make your bedroom extra cosy. If your mattress is between 8 and 10 years old you are definitely in need of a new one as it will no longer be at it’s best.
New bedding
How often do you buy new bedding? Do you alternate between a summer and winter duvet or do you have one that is suitable for all season? If you’re room still isn’t as cosy as you’d like and you’ve had the same old duvet for as long as you can remember consider buying a new one. A new duvet will make any bed look cosy instantly. You could even treat yourself to a new heated blanket or hot water bottle to ensure your bedding is toasty warm when you get in.
Create an atmosphere
Low light creates an instant cosy feel in any room, so why not install a dimmer switch in your bedroom so you can adjust the lighting to suit your mood? Playing your favourite music while relaxing will also help you create a calm and warm mood in the room. If you are a fan of scented candles or reed infusers, you could place them in and around your room so that they add to your relaxation routine.
Buy new bed clothes
A new pair of pyjamas, slippers and a dressing gown are the perfect combo for a cosy night in. Wearing them while relaxing in your bedroom will help make the room feel cosier too.
