4 Home Improvements You Might Overlook

A close-up of paintbrushes and an open tin of white paint on top of newspaper, with some paint spilt on the paper and brushes covered in white paint—perfect for your next home improvements project.

As the sun blisters the pavement and temperatures soar to thermostat-busting heights, this might seem like the perfect opportunity to laze in the garden and work up a tan. But the sun won’t last for long and, when Britain’s usual weather resumes, you’ll be trapped in your piddling house before you know it.

That’s why this is the ideal time to pick up your tools and start some much-needed home beautification.

The rest of this blog will dedicate itself to pointing out a few nooks and crannies in your home that might need improving, those aspects of your home that seemed destined to go untouched by your DIY eye.

So lug the toolbox out of the garage, make sure your ladders aren’t too rickety, and let’s get renovating!

The spare room

Just look at your spare room – laden with cardboard boxes, old DVDs, a treadmill that was used a grand total of once, and a bed that’s almost visible underneath the mountain of rubbish you’ve hoarded over the years.

This is the ideal place to start your refurbishment, and the first step towards improving your spare room is simple: clean up a bit.

Clearing some space in your cluttered spare room will make it look brand new, as will a fresh lick of paint on the walls and some new flooring – you may decide on carpet, vinyl or even engineered wood flooring. Do all of this, and you’ll be able to upgrade your tatty old spare room to a luxury guest room.

Doors

In many ways, doors are one of the most important components of your home, providing you with much-needed privacy in a crowded household. Just imagine a life without a bathroom door – absolute barbarism.

And yet you probably don’t care for your doors as much as you should. But if any of them are looking a bit tatty, they could be due for an upgrade. For our money, Oakwood Doors is one of the best places to do just that. Whether you need internal or external doors, you can receive them from Oakwood Doors within seven days – so give them a look.

Toilets

Without our dear old toilet, we’d be little more than mediaeval peasants. But when was the last time you thought about sprucing up your toilet? Chances are, it was a while ago. And what a shame, because a new version of Thomas Crapper’s invaluable invention is one of the greatest luxuries you can enjoy in your home.

Bathroom suppliers Drench have you covered with their exemplary selection of porcelain thrones. Their product selection is a catalogue of lavatory-related wonders, comprising everything from soft close seats to modern back-to-wall selections.

This might not be the most glamorous suggestion, but you’ll thank us when your next toilet trip is tremendous.

Light Fixtures

Updating your light fixtures is an effective way to spruce up your home, whether that means exterior lighting on your driveway or some new dimmers in the bedroom.

If you have electrical jobs planned, such as adding smart switches, replacing sockets, a fuse box replacement, or even a whole house rewiring, then you should seek out a professional and see how much electricians charge for their work so you can get an idea of the rough costs of your planned upgrades.

That’s our list! What home improvements do you have planned over the coming months? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. One of the first things we did when we moved into our current house was have all the internal door replaced. They were cheap boxwood things.
That upgraded the house to the next level immediately!
