I started my periods when I was 13/14. I remember that they were painful and heavy almost from the start and have continued to be that way almost every month ever since. I hated the time of the month as it always made me self-conscious and no matter what pads I used at the time I still didn’t like how I felt.
Fast forward a good few years and I am happier and more comfortable about how my periods are. Recently I made the switch from sanitary pads to period pants and it was the best decision I made. I wished there were more of them available in my younger years.
I no longer worry about leaks, getting sore on hot days from uncomfortable rubbing or needing somewhere to change a pad regularly. Because the pants are thin and discreet, I can just go about my day as normal too.
What are period pants?
Period pants are exactly as their name suggests. A pair of pants to use whilst on your period. They come in different flows – light, medium, heavy and super heavy meaning there is a pair of pants for every period type. They have been around since the 1990s but it’s only been within the last few years that they have become more popular, and I’m pleased to say that they now come in lots of sizes and designs too.
Why are they popular?
Period pants take away the need of using another product whilst on your period. They are a great product for those who can’t use tampons or sanitary towels, those just starting their periods, people who have mobility issues or and those who are concerned about the impact that they have on the environment in which they live.
Why choose period pants
Firstly, they have a discreet but adsorbent gusset, so you don’t need to worry about leaking or the pants being seen or felt through your clothing – just like any other pants.
The pants can be easily stored away until you can clean them. Once washed and dried they are ready to use again. They are easy to clean, simply rinse them in cold water and then pop them into a normal wash.
They are a great sustainable alternative to tampons and pads as each pair can be washed and used for over 2 years, meaning on average they replace 200 or more pads and tampons.
Why choose WUKA Flex
WUKA Flex are the world’s first multi-size period pants and are here to make periods easier. The pants are available in sizes XS-L and XL-4XL. Each pair has been designed with this in mind so that they can be quickly changed and perfectly adjusted to size with every wear and without the need to undress.
The pants have adjustable side sliding straps and is adjustable to cover 4 sizes – perfect for those whose weight fluctuates. The straps can be unclipped so that you can change them in less than 30 seconds, making them perfect for when you are travelling, at a festival, at an occasion or somewhere where it isn’t always easy to freshen up.

I love that these pants have high gusset rises both in the front and the back to prevent leaking. The moisture wicking top layer and breathable mid-layers ensure that you stay dry and comfortable.
For those just starting out with their periods, WUKA Flex is great as they can be adjusted as a young teen grows. They are perfect to wear at school and college and are as discreet as any other pair of knickers or pants. They can be worn for up to 8 hours and hold the equivalent of 2 – 3 pads.
If you do need to change your pants there is no need to undress, making the WUKA Flex easily changeable in small public toilets, between meetings, festivals, hotels, care homes and plane journeys. They can also be easily removed and changed whether lying down, standing or sitting, so they are great for people with disabilities and mobility issues.
Do you wear period pants or planning to change to using them in the future? If so, what made you make the change?
