10 Things That Mums Of Boys Will Understand

10 Things That Mums Of Boys Will Understand

Being a mum to 3 boys, there is loads I can tell you about having sons and just how weird and wacky, yet wonderful it is. So these are my 10 things that mums of sons will know… *Now I know that some of these can also class for girls but I don’t have any so am basing this on my experiences of myself growing up versus my sons now.

1. Everything Will Be Covered In Pee
Yes, this had to be number one! From the moment they are born, they will pee everywhere. When you’re changing their nappy, they’ll pee on you, on themselves, on the floor, in their mouths! Then at potty training stage, they love learning to wee standing up, but this then becomes extra fun to see where they can hit with said pee and you’ll end up cleaning your bathroom daily, if not more!
2. Boys’ Toys Are Just So Cool
Come on…Batman, Spiderman, the Avengers. Cars and trucks to diggers and race tracks. They’re just super cool. Banging things with tools and ‘fixing things‘ with a plastic screwdriver. And don’t forget sticks and stones. Oh, and mud, mud is their passion! Everything, in fact, boys will play with anything, the more gross, the better.

3. They’re Really Just Midget Wrestlers
The play fighting, and sometimes real fighting, just never stops. No matter what you do to try and part your children, they’ll find a way to hit, kick and jump on each other, which to them is just hilarious, until someone cries obviously and then they turn into a rendition of Shaggy’s famous ‘It wasn’t me‘. And even though they love each other and would protect each other, they just like giving a sly dig every now and then.

4. Boys Don’t Like Clothes
They just don’t. We could be having the mother of all Arctic storms, floods and even have company, but as soon as they step through the door and in to the house, the clothes come off. They don’t care who sees them, and if it wasn’t for me forcing them in to clothes, they would probably sick starkers all day!

5. Boys Love Boobs
Just like big boys but this love affair starts from birth and never leaves them. From prodding to fondling, to punching and trying to pull them out in front of everyone, to sleeping on them, they’ll do pretty much anything to get near *much like the big boys!

6. They Say What They Mean
Boys don;t have a filter, they are no nonsense. Their brutal honesty needs no second guessing and can leave you red faced in public if they start pointing things out to, or about, people. But it is refreshing to know that when they tell you ‘Mummy, you look pretty‘, they really mean it.
7. Anything Can Become A Gun
Yeah, so, my sons will never touch a gun as they trivialise violence yadda yadda yadda. Nope, sorry, no matter how you try to instil your pacifist ways, the fact remains that boys love guns. And you don;t have to go out and buy and actual toy gun as anything can become one. A stick (see below), a banana, their finger. Do I worry that my sons will grow up thinking that using guns and knives are okay? No I don’t, because I watch them play. I watch them learning right from wrong, talking about the dangers of shooting people, of hurting people.

8. Sticks… They’re The Best Thing Ever
I have lost count of the amount of times I have gone to wash they boys coats and found a stick in the pocket. They are just the best. From waving them around, attacking their siblings, an even using as a gun (see above). If we walk past any wooded area, the boys just have to find a stick to play with. Hell, if I’d have realised this earlier, Christmas would have been a lot cheaper indeed!
9. People Are Harder On Boys
And this is a sad one, but oh so true. You can guarantee that if something has happened and there’s a girl and a boy involved, most people will assume it is the boys fault before getting the facts.

10. You’re Their First Love
You know that saying which talks about sons only being a son until they get a wife, well that’s bull! Boys just love their mums, and even when they’re older and standing taller than their mum, boys still need that care and attention, no matter how big and strong they get, how old they are, boys will always be there. It’s a bond that is unbreakable, boys will always need their mums!

  1. So true and I'm glad my little one isn't the only one who immediately strips off the minute he walks through the door! I honestly thought he'd be starting his new pre-school naked at one point!

  2. Oh I dislike number 9. But when I stop and think about it you're right. Much like it's always my eldest fault it's alwAys the boys who start trouble except my 3yo is probably one of the more sensitive boys I know.

    But pee everywhere? Yep.

  3. I do not yet have kids but my nephew pretty much is all of these and since he discovered the art of peeing whilst standing its interesting

  4. I have to say I agree with most of this (especially the pee) but as a mum to a boy and girl my girl also loves sticks and 'boys' toys! I think people are harder on girls in different ways then boys. I agree that people often think boys are at fault in a physical argument but I think often people expect girls to 'behave properly' more than they do boys.

  5. Yep I can relate to all of these being a mum of one boy, I love the last point though thats really nice to know. I have also started joking with my husband that he may need to have to take on toilet cleaning duty if we have another boy! xx

  6. Great post – I am a mum to two boys, 13 and 3. And two girls! They are all so fab, but the boys and girls are definitely different (and not just in the obvious way!) Kaz x

  7. yep totally agree especially the gun one. We have gins made out of pieces of bread and sticks…crazy!! xxx Popping over from Mummy 2 Monkeys xxx

  8. Haha it is so true that boys love boobs from the moment they are born. I look after some children and they are obsessed with mine even though I am pretty flat chested lol!

  9. Judith Luscombe

Im a mother of two boys and all your points are so true, but we mothers always defend our boys to the point that my partner calls me Peggy Mitchell.

  10. Agree with them all
Debatable about boys always getting the blame -boys in our family seem to always get out of taking the blame-think its to do with being irish catholic !!!!

  11. all my kids are grown up 1 was a bad boy in his early till he learnt from his mistakes the rest now have jobs and have never been in trouble,i think theres always one in most big families that is more trouble than the rest
