Six people stand and play on a sandy beach at sunset, with gentle waves in the background. Long shadows are cast by the setting sun, making this bucket list moment unforgettable as one person raises their arms near the water’s edge.

Activity Holidays to Add to Your Bucket List

There are many different types of holidays to consider when you are thinking about taking a break. Lots of people go on holiday to relax and take some time away from work, while others go to make some happy memories with family and friends.

However, there are some travellers who are interested in enjoying an activity holiday. If you are thinking about what sort of holiday destinations are on your bucket list, we have a few extra suggestions for you.

Here are some additional locations that you may want to visit if you’re interested in an activity holiday.

Northern Lights

Green and purple aurora borealis lights swirl across a starry night sky above a snowy landscape with leafless trees and distant hills, creating a breathtaking bucket list experience.

If you are going to do anything, you should go ahead and add northern lights package holidays to your bucket list. The northern lights are an amazing experience, and you can even walk under them in the snow. Wrap up warm and take in the silence. It’s a great place to focus on your wellbeing and enjoy the moment. What makes it even better is that you can bring along some wine, hot chocolate, or coffee with you to make the moment truly special.

Of course, there are many activities that you can look into to make your trip to see the aurora borealis truly special. Not only can you take the scenic route to get to the best viewing spot of the northern lights, but you can even meet with specialists to talk about the astronomy and science behind the beautiful colours.

Petra and Wadi Rum Desert

A vast, rocky desert landscape with rugged hills and valleys under a clear blue sky stretches into the distant horizon—a true bucket list destination for adventure seekers.

If you are thinking about visiting Jordan, you may want to take part in an activity holiday around the lost city of Petra. Not only can you get to Petra by camel, but you can bike your way there! That way you can get a look at the beautiful landscapes.

If you want to have a guide, they can show you the Bedouin trails. Of course, you need to have a look at the lost city, but once you have finished your adventure for the day, you can clean yourself up in a hammam. It’s certainly worth the experience.

The Three Peaks challenge

Two people and a dog walk along a rocky path on a green hillside, overlooking a lake and distant mountains under a cloudy sky—a true bucket list adventure.

The UK has some excellent walking routes available around the Lake and Peak District. However, if you’re thinking about undertaking an activity holiday, you may want to give the Three Peaks challenge a go.

This type of activity holiday will have you climbing up the highest mountain peaks of England, Wales and Scotland. Some tourists try to do this within 24 hours, but this can become exhausting. Instead, take your time and explore the countryside and attractions around each area. That way, you can spread the time out and truly enjoy yourself. After all, there’s a 462-mile drive between all three mountains. So, it’s not worth rushing it.

Weligama Surfing

A tall palm tree with lush green fronds stands against a bright blue sky scattered with soft, white clouds—a true bucket list view for nature lovers.

When you visit Sri Lanka, one of the first things you may have in mind to do is to go climb Sigiriya. It makes sense, after all, you are interested in an activity holiday. However, you may also want to consider going surfing.

One of the best beaches we can suggest for you to visit is Weligama. This beach is pretty quiet, so it is really good if you are trying out surfing for the first time. It has large waves to make sure you get the perfect surf. If you want to visit, you’ll find Weligama in the southwest of Sri Lanka.

The Thrihnukagigur Volcano

Three people stand in silhouette against a rugged, multicoloured cave wall illuminated by dramatic lighting—a true bucket list experience that highlights the textures and patterns of the rock surface.

Are you a daredevil? Well, if you are, you may want to go to Iceland to go into the Thrihnukagigur Volcano. You can actually go inside the volcano and travel 120 metres below the surface to see what’s down there.

There’s a gorgeous cavern for you to see that shows a variety of lovely colours. The cavern itself doesn’t have any magma, and it has been over 4,000 years since the last eruption, but keep in mind that tours that go into it are organised on a yearly basis just to be safe. It’s definitely a bucket list destination for sure.

Are you ready to go on holiday?

Going on an activity holiday can feel like you are embarking on a proper adventure. There are so many destinations to enjoy that offer a variety of sights to see and fun to be had.

Consider your options carefully. You don’t want to wear yourself out before the end of your holiday. Instead, think about how you can organise your visits so that you can get enough rest and truly appreciate the activities you undertake. That way, the holiday will be worth the time and money you put into it.
