What Can I Do To Prevent The Spread Of Covid?
When you look back, it’s odd to think that for over a whole year, our lives have been drastically changed. When Covid hit, not one of us thought that arriving into April 2021, we would still be in a variation on a lockdown, still unable to go anywhere, and still following the Hands, Face, Space mantra.
But, it does look like there is light at the end of this very long tunnel, with the vaccine rollout, Covid testing, and most of the UK population following the rules, we are slowly starting to see the numbers lowering, cases dropping, and hopefully, the Government roadmap will be pulled off with ease.
Although the end is in sight, Covid very much hasn’t gone away, and will be here for a long time to come. There are many things we can all do to help stop the spread of Covid, and here are a few of the main points to adhere to…
Wash Your Hands Often
I don’t know if you know this, but you actually can wash your hands regularly without their being a pandemic in place! It seems that as soon as Covid hit, people only just realised this, which is mind boggling, to be fair.
But yes, wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available as you’re out of the house, use a hand sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol.
Wear A Mask
Everyone 11 years and older should wear masks in public in the UK, unless exempt from doing so. Masks should be worn in addition to staying apart from others who aren’t in your bubble. Wear your mask over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin and do not touch it once on.
Stay 2 Metres Away From Others
Try to put 2 metres of distance between yourself and people who don’t live in your household where possible, and indoors make sure you’re also wearing a mask. Remember that some people without symptoms may still be able to spread virus, so always be cautious of others around you. It’s also important to note that it’s not just others that can spread it. You may be asymptomatic and not even know you have the virus, and so keeping distance from others is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick.
Get Yourself Tested
Anyone who is experiencing Covid symptoms must self isolate and get tested. There are a couple of ways to get yourself tested, if you need to. Ring 119 and speak to someone over the phone, or you can get a Covid test on the Gov website. You can also use UK Wholesales to get non invasive lateral flow test kits.
Since children have returned to school last month, high school aged children have had to have a lateral flow test twice a week. They are surprisingly easy to do as now, the results are shown in 30 minutes so there is no more need to self-isolate. T brings them home and does them himself, with my watchful eye making sure it’s all going well. So far so good, and all his tests have been negative, but if the test was to show a positive result we would be then able to make an appointment to attend a Covid testing centre to arrange a PCR test.
Get Vaccinated
This one if obviously on the basis that you meet the requirements to get the vaccine at the current stage. I had my first vaccine 2 week ago, having the AstraZeneca jab. You should get a Covid vaccine when it is available to you to protect yourself, and those around you too. Once you are fully vaccinated, you may be able to start doing some things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic. It would also be a great help to know more about the process of how scientists and researchers conduct different studies to be able to appreciate how they learn and come up with different medicines and vaccinations for each illness that comes up. An example of this would be the gain of function research, click here to read more!
All in all, make sure you keep up with government guidelines as the lockdown restrictions are eased, and hopefully we’ll all be able to come out of lockdown and start seeing each other again.
