Of course, you want that glowing gold star from your dentist, but the most important thing about keeping your child’s teeth healthy is setting them up for a healthy future and keeping them comfortable in the present. Even though there are some basic tips that it can help to keep in mind, there are a few different ways that you can stay on top of your child’s oral health and hygiene. Here are a couple of them.

1. Visit the Dentist Regularly

Even though visiting the dentist is one of the more basic tips that anyone can give you about keeping your teeth and your child’s teeth healthy, it’s certainly worth mentioning. Both for adults and children alike, it’s important to visit the dentist for a cleaning and exam every six months in order to keep up to date on oral health. Even though life can get in the way and it can be somewhat difficult to schedule in time to go to the dentist twice a year, it’s especially important for children as they develop.

2. Teach Them to Brush

When children are little, it can be tempting to take care of everything for them. However, teaching them to brush and take care of their own oral hygiene can be a great way to build habits for the future. Even if you help them out and take a backseat as they get older and more capable, this can help ingrain a sense of routine and importance when it comes to brushing their teeth and taking care of themselves.

This means that avoiding sugar and making smart choices early on might be more important than meets the eye.

6. Get Sealants

Even though not all parents like the idea of getting sealants, and absolutely help protect your child’s baby teeth. When you go to the dentist, talk to them about what sealants might look like for your children, and what the benefits might be in their specific situation. Remember, the health of baby teeth does impact the health of adult teeth, so the motivation might still be there even if your child has not lost a single tooth yet.

7. Lead By Example
