Choosing The Right Flooring For Your Home

I think that choosing flooring for your home is a hard task. There’s so much choice and there’s so much that you need to take into consideration. We all know that flooring can be a big expense, so you want to make sure that you make the right choice at the start. We also know that you get what you pay for in terms of quality so you want to make sure it will last especially if you have a young family, pets or spend a lot of your time at home.

At the minute we have a mix of different floorings in our home – laminate in the living room, vinyl in the kitchen and bathroom and carpets in the bedroom, hallway, landing and stairs. We will be considering new flooring for our living room in the new year. At the present time, we have laminate flooring but after 11 years it is starting to look old and tired.

If like us, you are considering new flooring but you’re unsure what is best for you let me tell you about some of the different types. You might decide to choose one type for every floor covering in your home or you may decide that a mix is best. Visit Stories Flooring who will be able to help you with all your flooring needs.

Carpet in every room except the kitchen and bathroom is what most of us in our homes. We have a different colour carpet in each of the bedrooms and on the stairs and landing. I know some people have the same all throughout their homes and it seems especially popular in private rented accommodation as it’s often cheaper to buy a cheaper carpet by the roll. If you want your carpet to last consider where your high traffic areas are and who will be using them the most. If it’s a living room with small children playing in there or a hallway that leads to an external door you might want to consider a carpet that is dark in colour and hard-wearing so that it will last longer.

Engineered wood flooring

I love wood flooring but it is expensive, a good compromise would be vinyl, laminate or engineered wood flooring instead. At the minute we have a laminate floor in the living room but as I’ve already mentioned it’s starting to look old and tired now and it will definitely be replaced when we redecorate. We are undecided if to get another style of laminate or maybe even a carpet now the children are older. If you are considering a change in flooring visit Stories Flooring engineered wood floors. If you do decide to add wood or laminate flooring to your home you must ensure that it is treated properly and looked after so that it lasts. If you have pets and younger children who are accident-prone then maybe this type of flooring isn’t for you just yet.

Vinyl flooring

Vinyl flooring has come a long way. It is great for bathrooms and kitchens and you can even get vinyl flooring that looks like wooden boards so if real wood or laminate isn’t for you but you need a waterproof long-lasting covering this might be something to consider instead. You can buy vinyl in both roll and tile formats to give you added choices in both styles and designs.

Are you planning on changing your flooring anytime soon? If so, I’d love to hear about your plans in the comments below.
