Choosing an engagement ring can be hard. Sometimes it can be the make or break of this special occasion. After all you want to choose a ring that you and your fiancé will love.

If you and your partner are already engaged and going to buy a ring together or if you’re looking for a ring before popping that all important question you might be unsure what you're looking for. After all there are so many different rings to choose from which in itself can make the task daunting and let’s face it an engagement ring is one of the most important rings you will ever buy in your life.

If you’re unsure what ring to choose you’ve come to the right place as I have some things you might want to take into consideration before choosing the perfect engagement ring.

New or Vintage

Vintage rings are a popular choice for engagement rings. Sometimes family heirlooms are passed down the generations. I think a vintage ring looks elegant. If you are looking to buy a brand new ring there is a lot of choice available look at shesaidyes engagement rings for ideas.

The Design

You might decide to buy a moissanite bridal set so that your intended has a matching wedding band too. If you don’t find a ring to suit your tastes you may even decide to have a ring made from your own unique design. This isn’t a cheap option, but it would mean that no one else would have the same ring.

The Material

Personally, I am a big fan of yellow gold so there was no other option for me when it came to my engagement ring and wedding ring. Whether you like gold, silver, rose gold, platinum or titanium there are plenty of choices out there. Some metals are more hardwearing than others so this might be worth considering especially if your intended has a job that involves a lot of hard work on their hands you may want to choose a ring made from a harder material. She said yes have many different rings available in a number of different precious metals containing different stones and settings.

A Stone or No Stone

Traditionally engagement rings contain a stone – usually a diamond but this doesn’t have to be the case. If you do choose a ring with a stone, will it be a diamond? if not, what stone will it have, will you opt for a ring that has more than one type of stone? The questions and choices are endless You could look for rings that contain their birthstone or favourite jewel.

Once you have decided on the type of stone the ring will have then you need to decide what shape the setting will be. Will it contain a solitaire diamond or a cluster of stones, will the stone be round, square, teardrop or heart-shaped? Maybe put the feelers out with your beloved so that you have an idea as to the ring they would like.

The Price

Price isn’t something that should be a factor when choosing the perfect engagement ring. That being said, if you have a tight budget the last thing you want to be doing is going over this amount. However, the thing anyone should be doing is getting themselves in a massive amount of debt for a ring, wedding or anything else in life. You can always upgrade at a later time. As with everything though, you get what you pay for. If you are wanting a good clarity/carat of diamond you will need to be prepared to pay a higher price. Having said that, there are beautiful rings at very reasonable prices, the key is to look around, wait for the sales or maybe even consider looking in a pawn shop where you just might the perfect ring at a fraction of the price.

There’s no right or wrong decision when it comes to the engagement ring as long as you and most importantly your other half are happy with your choice.
