Travelling to Sweden – Things You Should See and Do

Gamla Stan in Sweden

My husband and I have great plans for when the boys grow up and leave home. We want to travel wherever we can. Our dream is to own a motorhome so that we can go away as often as we like both at home and abroad.

I really want to visit Scandinavia with Sweden being first on my travel list. I would love to visit Swedish Lapland and I’m certain my husband would love to go fishing for Pike at one of the many beautiful lakes that the country has to offer.

Are you planning a trip to Sweden in the future? if so, here are few of things you should and shouldn’t do whilst you are visiting.

You Should:

Visit places

Sweden has lots of attractions to offer any traveller whether you are wanting to visit Lapland, explore the waterways or see some traditional Swedish architecture there is something for everyone. Just three places you might consider in your itinerary are:

  •          The Vasa Museum - Sweden’s most popular museum and attracts a million visitors a year.
  •          Gamla Stan - Sweden’s oldest town and dates to the 13th century. Steeped in history and culture too.
  •          Liseberg Theme Park – sees almost 3 million visitors a year and is popular with visitors old and young.

Take the right money

Sweden is well on it’s way to being a cashless society so it is advised to take a credit card with you on your travels instead of cash. That being said if you are planning to take money to spend make sure you get the right currency. Sweden’s currency is the Krona (at the time of writing 1 Krona is worth 0.083 pence)

Take in some culture

Sweden is full of tradition and culture and it would be a shame to visit and not take any of it in. For example, Snus / nicotine pouches are easy to use and are a big part of Swedish culture. Whilst visiting Sweden you could take a trip to local towns, lakes and the countryside to see different aspects of the countries varied culture.

Have respect

Like when visiting any place that isn’t home you should have respect for other people, their customs, culture and traditions.

You Shouldn't:

Be rude or loud

Manners cost nothing, and you should remember that regardless of where you are in the world. Be respectful and keep the noise to a minimum if you are planning to let your hair down.

Smoke in public places

Like many places Sweden has a no smoking policy in restaurants and bars. They also have laws that forbid you to smoke outside these places too. Make sure you read up on any laws before travelling to ensure that you don’t end up in trouble.

Are you planning a trip to Sweden in the future? If so, what’s on your to do list? I’d love to hear about your plans in the comments below.
