3 long-lasting improvements to your body

‘Get that beach body ready this summer’ is a common marketing phrase you’ll hear all summer-long. Not only is it an unrealistic pitch for anyone whose work commitments preclude a vigorous exercise routine, but it glosses over the fact that a ‘beach body’ is a depressingly temporary feature that’s nearly impossible to maintain.

As soon as your schedule becomes too hectic for a regular work out, or the winter weather begins to make you lethargic, those pounds will pile back on and the body you’ve sculpted all summer long will look more than a little podgy.

Instead of pressuring yourself to conform to unrealistic body standards, it’s far better to take positive action in your beauty regime and find strategies that’ll stick.

We’ve found a few such techniques to help you on your way. Take a look and see how these tips can make your life that little bit better.

1. Braces

Our obsession with how our teeth look comes in part from America, where advancements in dentistry allowed every member of the populace to attain a flawless set of pearly whites.

Since then, British standards of dentistry have similarly improved and anyone without straight teeth is viewed as having some sort of inherent failing.

It makes it pretty hard to have a set of wonky teeth as an adult. But the quality of braces has risen dramatically in the past two decades, with near-invisible smile aligners from companies like Portman Clear Braces removing the embarrassment of fixing your teeth as an adult.

Invest in invisible braces and you’ll feel happier and more confident in a matter of months. To keep your teeth and braces clean invest in a good toothbrush. If you're unsure which brush will meet your needs read reviews to see what other people think, why not start with an Oral B Pro 1500 review.

2. Laser eye surgery

There are no benefits to being short- or long-sighted, apart from occasionally getting to don a fancy pair of glasses. Contact lenses itch, glasses are an obstruction and squinting at everything you look at is in no way a solution. Enter laser eye surgery, a minor procedure which can repair your eyesight for up to and beyond 10 years.

Laser eye surgery takes less than 10 minutes per eye and, thanks to the liquid anaesthetic used, is painless for most people who undergo it.

If you’ve ever felt self-conscious wearing glasses, then this is the procedure for you. It’s costly, but it’s worth it.

3. Nutritional plans

The media places a huge focus on fad diets, from the five-two plan to Gillian McKeith’s inane ramblings.

But the truth is, little beats a consistent, balanced and nutritious diet every day.

That means plenty of fruit, vegetables, protein and clean carbs packed into three square meals a day.

If you want to go a step further, you could even consider cutting out meat and going entirely plant-based. A wealth of studies have shown that switching to veganism can help you lose weight and improve your overall health.

That’s our list of tips to help you feel healthier and happier in the long term. Is there anything we’ve missed? Let us know in the comments below.
