It's Always Fun To Be Outdoors

To say that the last year and a half has been hard on everyone is an understatement, but I think it has probably been harder for our children than us. We can rationalise what is happening / what has happened as we have access to the information first-hand whereas they have had to hear it from grownups and had to adjust to not being able to go to school or socialise with their friends until very recently. This has certainly been a time of confusion and upset for many youngsters.

Outdoor clothing specialist Regatta recently started a campaign called Kids' Ultimate Green Space. It aims to highlight the limitless imagination that young children have and encourages children to be reminded of their friendships and the fun times spent outdoors.

This got me thinking about some of the things we love to do as a family and the boys with their friends. There is no better feeling than being outdoors we are lucky that we live in an area that has canals, rivers, and woodland nearby for us to be able to explore as a family or as part of a day out with our friends and their children.

One of the things we used to love to do before the lockdowns was visiting the coast often, but this was impossible as the restrictions meant we were unable to travel the 80 miles to visit our favourite beaches. We used to live near the beach, and it really hit home how much we missed it when we could no longer go.

This year we are planning to more than make up for the time lost and have already had one visit and plan to go back very soon. We love nothing more than building sandcastles, rock pooling and enjoying an ice cream before we leave.

If you're stuck for ideas of things to do now that more places are opening up why not plan a playdate for your children with their friends. You could go for...

  • A day at the beach
  • A walk in the woods
  • A walk down by a river or canal
  • A picnic at the park

What have you and your little ones been up to recently? If you have not had the chance to enjoy the outdoors just yet what are you planning to do? I would love to hear all about it in the comments below.
