Build a family games room this Christmas

If you are looking for the perfect gift for your family, why not transform your spare room into a family games room together? That way, you all pitch in and have a fun space to build great memories together! It’s a win, win situation.

Maybe you don’t have a spare room… what about your garage or attic? Are they simply being used as storage of dusty unwanted stuff? Time to revamp those spaces and transform them into the most perfect games room of all. And if you don’t have any space room at all, you can still renovate the room you do have to create a playful and entertaining space for all.

I’ve partnered up with Hamilton Billiards, snooker table manufacturer, who are eager to share some of their tips and ideas on how to build the perfect family games room. So, grab a cuppa, maybe a notepad and start taking down some ideas!

Planning, planning and planning.
The most important part of transforming a room is to plan it out. It might seem tedious to some, but it’s highly important. Sit down with your family and discuss ideas, colours and games you’d like to include in this new room. Creating a mood board is a great way to see if your ideas can complement each other and how best to go about choosing different colours, patterns and more – I normally use Pinterest to create mood boards. Family Budgeting also believes that mood boards are great tools when creating a games room, mentioning how "a mood board always gives you an overall idea of what you are aiming for and then you can work around that idea."

Think about the games.
Choosing the right games is also essential, games that everyone can enjoy or at least have a variety of games to keep everyone entertained. Scrapbook Blog has some great tips on creating the perfect games room, they mention, “The games are what it is all about. From board games to games consoles and traditional games, the choices are endless.” Pick some modern games and complement them with traditional games, such as a bespoke snooker table by Hamilton Billiards.

Once you’ve got all your games picked out, it’s time to decorate the room. Fashion Mommy recommends browsing for accessories and furniture on second-hand websites if you are on a budget. That way, you can upcycle furniture and accessories and make it your own.

Put everything together and then, it will be time to find out who’s the most competitive person in the family!
