Tips For Starting Your Own Online Business

With minimal start up costs and the potential to reach millions of customers, setting up an online business has never been more popular. And if you've thought about opening your own business, you might have begun to look for advice. There are so many tips for starting a new business out there that choosing which ones to follow can get confusing.

But starting up an online business is a whole new ball game. I know, as my business has been running for over 7 years now, and it has been such hard work to learn how to successfully use the online scene to get my brand seen. So here are a few of my tips to starting up your own online business.

Choosing Your Name Wisely
You need to choose a name for your business. This is such an important part and one thing that seems to always be washed to the side. Make sure your name suits your business, and more importantly, that there is a domain name available for it too. The best solution is for the two to match exactly, and that it's not too similar to a competitor.

Be A Conscious Online Store
This is one of the most popular forms of online businesses at the moment as instead of renting or buying a local space, you sell your products or services direct to customers via a website which saves you money in the long run. And let's face it, most of us shop online now anyways.

Having an online store is also better for the environment. No excessive heating or lighting bills, and as small businesses could be run direct from your own home, it's saving space and less of a carbon footprint too. Physical goods can be delivered to customers and you can find eco-friendly packaging solutions to really make sure you're being a sustainable online store.

Design A Killer Website
Once you've got your product, the name of your business and have registered your domain, you need to set up your website. Remember to keep it simple. Some important tips to keep in mind:
  • Have a white background and stand out colours for text
  • Make your navigation clear and simple
  • Include a newsletter so that you can collect e-mail addresses
  • Make it easy to buy
  • Make it customer-friendly

Email Marketing
As with one of the points above, having an email newsletter is super important if you want to get yourself in front of potential customers. When you build a list, you're creating one of the most valuable assets for your business as this means that your customers have given you permission to send them an email. This is where you can sign up to my newsletter. Just make sure you follow GDPR protocols and offer a double opt in, and an easy way to unsubscribe too.
