London Travel

As much as you love your kids, there comes a time when every couple needs a date night, a special evening that’s free from all the usual responsibilities of home life. London is the perfect city for a bit of old fashioned Romance, and with these Four ideas to pick from, you’ll be booking the babysitter months in advance.

Rooftop Tipple
If Instagram is anything to go by, there are few better places for making special memories than rooftop bars. A romantic drink at one of London’s best rooftop bars will make the city’s iconic skyline an eternal reminder of your special date. Whether you want to bask in the sun or sip under the stars, you’ll find there’s something about that view that makes the drinks seem colder, the snacks a little saltier, and the seats a little plusher.

Picnic in the Park
Summertime means bright, warm evenings and late sunsets. On evenings such as this, it can feel like a waste to head into a dimly lit restaurant for dinner, no matter how great the food promises to be. When the sun's out, many London couples opt to spread out blankets and enjoy a romantic dinner and drinks al fresco. London has plenty of public parks to choose from. Take a romantic stroll through Hampstead Heath’s ancient woodlands and settle for your picnic at the top of Parliament Hill, where you’ll have a view of the London skyline. And if you want to be super posh, Dukes Hotel in Mayfair will lay on a picnic for you, complete with your very own butler!

Take in a Show
When the weather’s a little colder, a night out at the theatre can be the perfect date. The London theatre scene is one of the most vibrant in the world, so you’ll be spoiled for choice. Going to the theatre offers a great excuse to dress up a little, which is something you might miss in your usual day-to-day life. It’s also the date that keeps on giving: watching a play together not only gives you the excitement on the night but also hours of entertainment afterwards as you chat about the story and characters. It’s also the best date idea for when you don’t have time for that date right now: London theatre tickets bought in advance and stuck up on the fridge with a magnet will keep you holding out for date night as long as you need to.

Dine Out
Simply going out for dinner might sound boring to some, but nothing says Romance quite like not having to cook or do the dishes. Jokes aside, family dinnertime is one of the great joys of family life, but many couples find that they miss the intimate dinner conversation they had when they were dating. Whatever budget and tastes you’re working with, London’s diverse restaurant scene offers a romantic dinner setting for every couple.

What a lovely article. I find the main problem with London is *choosing* what to do, there are so many ways of enjoying the city!
