5 Tips To Make Your CV Stand Out

Writing a CV always takes a lot of time and can be one of the toughest challenges of job hunting. This is the case whether you are starting from scratch or updating your details to make it zing. As someone who writes a lot, I find that family and friends come to me when it comes to checking over these sorts of things, and for me, there are many parts of the CV that are being let down.

Recently, TMI Resourcing asked me all about how I make my CV zing, and so here are my 5 tips to make you CV stand out from the crowd...

Make It Easy To Read
One of my bug bears - busy fonts, huge writing, messy layouts. Employers will skip straight past if your CV is hard to read. Usually a CV should be no more than two pages - a surefire way of landing yourself on the 'no pile' is to send them your entire life story.

Stand Out
Your CV should demonstrate your unique blend of skills and experience. Showing problem solving skills and achievements whilst also oozing your personality. Use a short personal statement to explain why you are the best person for the job.

Make It Keyword Friendly
If you’ve uploaded your CV to a job site so employers can find you, keywords are very important. Job titles and keywords will help a search engine pick out your CV from the pile. Confused? I was too until I spent 6 years writing online and learning about all things to do with search engines.

Show Every Employment, Voluntary and Educational Merits.
Have a gap in your CV? Whenever your between jobs, check out course online to see if there's anything that can fill your time. Having extra certificates, and qualifications on your CV shows that your willing to try new ways to gain employment, gaining new skills to do so.

But most importantly, Tell The Truth
Everyone lies on their CV, right? No they don't, and this is a sure fire way to get yourself back on the unemployment heap in a flash. Blatant lies on your CV can land you in a whole heap of trouble when it comes to employers checking your background and references.
