Valentine's Day | How To Celebrate When You've Been At It Long Term

If you've been together for a long time, like my husband and I - 12 years and still going strong-ish - then you'll know that after the first couple of years, Valentine's Day doesn't factor in as an important day any more.

There's no more need for big gestures and us parents would be just happy with a 20 minute bath in peace rather than a date night and a dozen red roses. So this year I thought I would write about the best items to buy to celebrate Valentine's when you've been together an age. Word of warning, it includes a lot of alcohol!

Let's start off with some actual gifts then shall we. Hello Moon offer a whole range of Love Wall Art which can be personalised to you and is a great keepsake to have pride of place on the wall. From names and dates to the beautiful personalised ' just words' poster which can have any quote, poem, or joke that you would like printed on it. Posters are printed on a premium 250gsm silk poster paper, and are available in a range of sizes, with or without frame. How amazing does it look once it's had the personal touch to it. I think this quote fits us well!

For those who lover to have a date at home, then Date Delivered is the perfect gift for you. Date Delivered understands every couple is unique and invites the customer to complete a short, confidential online questionnaire - the ‘Couples Profile’ - which enables the company to create customised date nights from a wine tasting evening, a cocktail making class or a cooking session. Each date is packaged in a stylish box and is catered to the couple. I love how every aspect has been thought about and rather than just a date box, it gives you something to do. The wine tasting box was so much fun!

If you're after cards with a bit of a difference then check out these innovative Valentine’s Day designs by contemporary card makers Cardology have a delightful and unexpected surprise inside: an intricate three dimensional pop-up. The elaborate paper sculptures are inspired by Kirigami, the beautiful Japanese art of paper cutting and folding, and there are some beautiful ones for Valentine's Day, as well as a few naughty ones!

For her indoors, the Loretta necklace and Love Heart bracelet from DIWAH would be wonderful gifts. Handmade in the UK, jewellery from DIWAH can be edited to suit and all elements can be changed, from length, style, look, everything can be altered so it fits the recipient perfectly. You can even add in some semi-precious gems to make it even more stunning. All items come gift boxed and wrapped in beautiful pink tissue paper.

And for the men in your life, how about something that gets him out of the house for a bit - how romantic eh! My husband is a sucker for anything do to which sports and so tickets to 2017 Betway Premier League Darts tour gets him from under my feet for a whole night. Which means that I can enjoy some peace whilst he's out watching people throw pointed things at a wall!

That means, if I'm getting a nice relaxing bath on my own for a change, it's nice to get cosy with some beautifully scent candles. The Zippo candle lighter is the perfect tool to set the tone for a romantic Valentine’s date, or to stop me from burning my fingers whilst lighting candles!

I guess if I'm actually getting that bath - on my frigging own! - then it's the perfect time to use the best quality bath products that I can find. Urtekram, which means ‘herbalism’ in Danish has created a range of effective organic body care preparations in a variety of scents.  There are 11 products in the UK Rose range, each infused with the endearingly romantic scent of a thousand red roses. The rose geranium oil is known for its soothing and caring qualities whilst pampering your skin, hair and senses.

When it comes to my husband, the big days are usually the only times he actually gets a shave - the lazy bum - so I think having a special edition razor might help o get him having smooth skin more often. Gillette have launched an exclusive gift set with Tesco, in partnership with the British & Irish Lions rugby team, so people can give the rugby-loving men in their life a gift to remember. In the pack you'll receive a Gillette Fusion ProShield Razor Handle + 4 ProShield Blades and it has an exclusive razor design where the handle artwork features the Lions logo.

Yeah, us girls do love roses sometime, but roses aren't the only flowers that women will love this Valentines Day. The So Divine ‘Ooh La La’ Vibrator has a delicate flower shape which provides an extra frisson of pleasure while the 10 vibration modes are guaranteed to give you blushes.

Chocolates always go down well and so these La Trufflina truffles from  Guylian  are  gift wrapped and ready to be presented. Choose from 16 pieces of milk, white and dark Belgian chocolates. Perfect for scoffing down whilst enjoying a glass of wine, or two!

For chocolate lovers, why not combine chocolate and alcohol in a delicious romantic bottle of Demijohn ‘Heart of Chocolate Rum’ which comes in an elegant 500ml heart shaped bottle filled to the brim with their new Chocolate Rum Liqueur. With a delicious rich but slightly bitter taste of dark chocolate combined with exotic rum this drink is for someone who likes things dark and strong – something a bunch of flowers would struggle to match!

Of course, it wouldn't be Valentine's Day without having a glass of champers - for me anyway, not the hubby - and so how about a twist with some beautiful rosé champagne like this Nicolas Feuillatte D'Luscious Rosé Champagne in Sailor Bag. D’Luscious rosé is a blend of the three classic Champagne varieties: Chardonnay for elegance and finesse, Pinot Noir to impart roundness and structure and Pinot Meunier for fruit character. Adding a small quantity of red wine results in the Champagne’s shimmering pink appearance.

Or if you want to go all out with elegance, then Nicolas Feuillatte Palmes d'Or Brut Vintage Champagne should do the trick. In a black star gift box, Palmes d'Or Brut Vintage has a blend of ginger, red fruits and honey, made of the finest blends from Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte using grapes only from Grand Cru and Cru appellations. And it comes in a beautiful bottle that is sure to stand out.

From champagne to spirits with this gorgeous Pinkster 'Let the love beGin' Limited Edition Gin from 31Dover. Containing the same delicious small-batch Pinkster gin, lovingly hand-steeped in fresh raspberries (which are grown locally to their rural base outside Cambridge) to give it its signature hue, the bespoke bottle makes for an ideal Valentine's gift.

If you're in to personalised gifts, then this Personalised Wine from GiftsOnline4U, engraved 'With Love' pewter label would be perfect. This is a delicious bottle of 75cl personalised wine with a unique, embossed pewter label which can be personalised with your special Valentine’s message. You can even choose between red, rosé or white wine.

If you're a beer lover then the Meantime collection will be perfect for you. Meantime Raspberry Wheat Beer is based on a pale, lightly hopped wheat beer. This refreshingly crisp drinks has a fruitiness aroma and rich colour of raspberry wheat which comes from the addition of fresh raspberry puree during maturation.

Or if you're looking for a full bodied drink, then Meantime’s Yakima Red it is. It's brewed with British and German malts and boasts a deep ruby colour and medium to full body. The addition of five varieties of US hop from the Yakima Valley in Washington State imparts spectacular fruit and citrus flavours with a restrained bitterness. Made with love, Yakima Red delivers all the flavour and character you come to expect from Meantime's variety of craft beer styles.

Whereas, if you like nothing better than enjoying a nice, hot, steaming cup of barista style coffee, then a Nescafé Dolce Gusto Genio coffee machine might be the one for you. Smart, sleek, and uncompromising on performance, they give you great results from that first coffee of the day to after-dinner drinks at night. Which a choice of a whole range of different coffees, chocolates and teas as well as come cold drinks too.

Of course, you can always go for the little things and offer a nice cuppa with a sensual massage for afterwards. Discount Supplements offer a whole range of products perfect for Valentine's, from Pukka Love Tea and Sweet Freedom Choc Shot for making a gorgeous hot chocolate and even Faith In Nature Organic Chocolate Bath and Shower Foam and Health Aid Sensuous Massage Oil.
