Simple (& Affordable) Fixes For A Family Home That Lacks Kerb Appeal

When you’ve got a family to take care of, your priorities change, and rightly so. Time becomes of the essence, with very little time for yourself, as most of your time is taken up by your little ones. Then there’s the fact that as well as a lack of time, you most probably also have a lack of money - raising a family doesn’t come cheap.

For these reasons, often when we have a young family and are just beginning to navigate our way through parenthood, our homes suffer. Admittedly, the insides of our homes tend to look picture-perfect - we pay more attention to these as we spend most of our time inside our homes. However, this means that often, the outsides of our homes can be neglected and can lack curb appeal.

If your home lacks kerb appeal - aka looks a mess from the outside, the chances are that you would like to change that. However, you only have a small amount of time and money to commit to the project, so need simple fixes that are budget-friendly. Don’t worry; I’ve got you covered - here are some ideas to update your home’s kerb appeal quickly and on a budget.

Pressure wash the exterior of the building
The first step is to pressure wash the exterior of the building. While you might think that painting is the only option for sprucing up your property’s paintwork, it’s not. If the paint is still in relatively good condition - aka it isn’t peeling or bubbling, pressure washing could be the answer. Pressure washers are cheap to hire and will allow you to quickly remove any dirt and grime from your property, making your home’s paintwork look brand new, or at least, almost brand new.

Upgrade your front door
Your front door is one of the first things that people will see when turning up at your home, so it’s crucial that your door and entire porch area is smart and stylish. Start by giving your front door a clean, and then, if it needs it, paint or varnish it. It is also a good idea to swap out any old or outdated hardware - aka door handles, for new ones - these don’t tend to be expensive so don’t worry about the cost. If your porch area has a covering that’s old and outdated, now could be the ideal time to update it. If you want to do this yourself, all you need is access to a website that has a range of building and construction products and using polycarbonate roofing you can create a new covering.

Add solar powered lighting
If your home doesn’t already have exterior lighting, consider adding solar powered lighting. Believe it or not, solar powered lights can be bought for incredibly low prices and are quick and simple to install, especially wireless designs. You would be amazed at how much difference dotting a few pretty lights around can make to your home’s kerb appeal.

So there you have it, a list of simple and affordable fixes for a family home that lacks kerb appeal. Take these on board, and you can transform your home into the most amazing space.
