Boys and their tools eh! It's like something in their brain, it just clicks and whenever they see a screwdriver they just have to try and unscrew anything and everything in sight. And this is true for my brood. No matter what it is. If it's got a screw in it, it can be fixed.
Because everything is broken according to boys...
And it's not just the handy screwdriver. Anything can be banged if you have a hammer to hand. Anything can be cut if there's a saw nearby. They just love fixing things, and making a noise of course.
So when they get the chance to receive and review a whole host of tool-age and gear, you just know that they're going to be in their element. Especially if it's based around one of their favourite ever cartoon characters.
The Bob The Builder range from Smoby is sure to be a best seller this year for Christmas and to show you just how fab it truly is, here is a run down of everything we received and what's on offer. From the huge workbench, the tools and even the dress up set, there is so much to choose from.
The Bob the Builder First Work Bench is the stand-out toy that I'm sure all kids will love to use. Children can work like Bob the Builder using all of his tools. This work bench includes over 30 tools and accessories, including a saw, hammer, spanner and screwdriver, as well as many screws, bolts and construction pieces that can all be connected together.
The work bench fits together really easily and took me around 10 minutes to put together. The instructions are easy to read and show it all, every step of the way. I like how it has little pots to hold the screws and nails, these pots screw onto the work bench using the toy screws provided.
All the tools are designed exactly like the ones Bob uses on the TV show so children can associate with the show as they play along at home. And that was definitely true when C came to play with it. 'Come on Bob! We need to fix the treehouse' he shouted across the garden as he ran, spanner in hand towards their playhouse.
Using the spanner to 'fix' the door handles and fixing new screws, C wanted to make sure that it was sturdy enough and so he needed to check every last screw, and tighten them all up. It's wonderful to see C using his imagination as he pretends to be working with Bob, and also the help using them is giving his dexterity. Using the screwdriver properly and being able to twist it, and the spanner, with small movements of his hands.
The Bob the Builder Chainsaw is styled just like the power tools from the hit children’s TV show. Smoby have created the the chainsaw to feature motorised child-safe blades that rotate around the edge of the saw when you turn it on just like the real thing.
It also makes the realistic chainsaw noise when turned on and you can also press the trigger and you get an additional sawing noise as well. C absolutely loves this as it looks and sounds exactly as it should do. It's just the right size for his hands and means that he can go all out with imaginary play as he
pretends to kill all of his family fixes everything in sight.
Like the chainsaw, the Bob the Builder Jigsaw works like a real one (just without the real blade of course!). This electric jigsaw has an inbuilt electric motor that moves the child-safe plastic saw blade up and down. It has a little red light that comes on when you press down, just like a real jigsaw.
And it makes the real sawing sounds too. A light sound when the button is pressed, but if pressed and then held down, it sounds just like it's cutting wood. I love that they have though of everything when making these toys, such as the sound changing as it makes it feel so much more realistic.
With these power-tool types, the chainsaw and jigsaw, I was impressed that they came with the batteries already included and fitted so were ready to play with. And even better that they were so easy to get out of the boxes. The worst part of Christmas day it trying to fight with what feels like thousands of boxes of toys that are so stuck down like they are welded shut!
When it comes to dressing up, the kids can;t get enough and so the Bob the Builder Dress Up Set is something that has been used loads. I mean, who doesn't want to dress up in a checked shirt, work vest and hard hat and pretend to be a cartoon character!
The set also includes smartphone and spanner which adds to the tool collection. The helmet was too small for C's head but he didn't let that small detail trying to stop him wearing it, and he styled it out like a pro.
Bob the Builder's Tool Bag is small clear-fronted rucksack which holds another lot of tools to play with. The set includes a Mechanical Drill that spins when you push the trigger, a saw, hammer and spanner. The back pack has little compartments for all the included tools so they can be held in place and room for all a couple other tools to be added for if Bob is having to travel to his next big project.
The whole range is amazing and will be something that the boys love for time to come. I am especially appreciative of the realistic nature of the toys. The sounds that are lifelike, the movements of the power-tools, even the ruler on the work bench and the fact that the screws can fasten all the compartments together.
And so, I am pleased that I have been given a Bob the Builder Tool Bag (RRP: £12.99) to give away to one lucky reader. For your chance to win this prize, just in time for Christmas, enter via the Rafflecopter form below.
