Encouraging Baby’s Independence with SMA® PRO Follow-on Milk

There comes a time in baby’s lives that they want to explore the world on their own. To get a feel for things and be more independent as they take on the world and grow in to little people. As parents, we are in a bit of a quandary, getting excited as your baby learns something new but then having this sadness that your baby is also growing up and becoming more independent every day.

From around 6 months old, independence will start to develop. Their goal is to move about, any which way possible. Starting to roll over, sit up, bum shuffle, crawl and then walk on their own. Moving and grooving, trying to escape to new places.

Escaping at nappy changes now they've decided that they want to be free and wiggling like mad whenever a nappy does come near. And one of the best ones, starting to settle in to a routine where they sleep through and no longer need mum/dad during the night. I love this stage, although I do miss the nighttime cuddles that we used to have!

Then the weaning stage starts. Trying spoon led but ending up with baby led as your little one decides that they want to hold the spoon, and then flick the food all over you. Giving fingers foods when they want to eat on their own without the need for help. Deciding on what they do and don't like and playing with their food.

Drinking on their own and then subsequently pouring it down themselves. Yep, that happens. It can be a daunting time for us parents, especially when it comes to food and drinks. With the amount that ends up launched around, it is hard to gauge just how much your little one has had.

That's where SMA® PRO Follow-on Milk comes in to help. For over 90 years SMA® Nutrition has invested in early life nutrition research by continually developing baby milks inspired by the specific nutritional needs of babies.

SMA Nutrition has recently launched their most advanced formula yet SMA PRO Follow-on Milk, which is suitable between 6 -12 months. This improved formula has been made using SMA Nutrition’s exclusive protein process, supported by 50 years of protein research.

Iron helps support normal cognitive development of babies and Vitamin D and Calcium support your baby’s normal growth and development of bone.

As a parent, you want the best for your child, and seeing all these changes happen, is a sign that your baby is growing up and being their own independent little person with their very own personality.

Important Notice: Breast milk is best for babies and breastfeeding should continue for as long as possible. SMA® PRO Follow-on Milk is only suitable for babies over 6 months as part of a mixed diet. It should not be used as a substitute for breast milk during the first 6 months.

  3. This is great. I couldn't breast feed due to certain medications I take and so getting the best formula was really important. I was in NZ when sylvia was a baby so its good to kow what products are good here in the uk too.

  4. I think neither breast feeding nor bottle feeding is best. I think they are both the best as it means baby is happy with a full tummy. We have never used SMA but this does sound fab for growing toddlers. x

  5. My son had formula after about six months. My daughter breastfed for quite a while. So it's good to know there is something good quality they can have, as every baby is different x

  7. Very interesting post. Breast is definitely best but if the mother or baby can't do breast then as long as the baby is getting some milk then that's the main thing xxx

  8. I found weaning very stressful. I was always worried about whether Little Miss H was getting enough of the good nutrients and vitamins that she needed. It is great to know that there is a follow-on milk out there that has everything your baby needs to help their development. Hugs Lucy xxxx

  9. I was very grateful for the great choice on the market when it came to choosing milk for my son. He was formula fed because breastfeeding didn't work out for us and I wanted to make sure I was giving him the best I could that was on the market. Articles like this are so important to help mums who are in a similar position to what I was make an informed decision. x
