Motorola MBP853 Connect Baby Monitor

When it comes to babies, us parents are such worriers. Not even able to let our little bundles be away from us for 2 minutes without having to check on them. I remember when I first had Thomas, I hated going to sleep and would constantly wake up to check that he was breathing!

So that's where having a monitor comes in. Monitors are great as it means that you can hear if your baby wakes whilst you are away from them, downstairs and enjoying the moments of peace. The Motorola MBP853 Connect Baby Monitor goes many steps further than being just a baby monitor though and is quite an amazing piece of kit.

First of all, the Motorola MBP853 Connect Baby Monitor is a video baby monitor which comes with a 3.5-inch colour LCD parent unit. The parent unit then houses a multitude of extra features to make this monitor the gold standard of baby monitors on the market.

From the parent unit, you can change the direction of the baby unit. Just a few presses of the buttons and the motorised camera will pan and tilt up to 300 degrees so you can get it into the best possible position to see your baby. It then also has a digital zoom function so that you can get up and close to view your baby, from the comfort of the screen on the parent unit.

The video is shown in colour during the day and at night, the camera has infra-red night vision in black and white so you can always keep an eye on your little darling. You can use the two-way communication feature to speak to your baby and hear their replies with the high sensitivity microphone and the integrated lullabies will help soothe your baby back off to sleep.

If that all wasn't enough, the Motorola MBP853 Connect Baby Monitor is also enabled for remote viewing via 2.4 GHz FHSS wireless technology on Android (4.0 or later) or iOS (7.0 or later) smartphone, tablet or computer via the Hubble for Motorola Monitors app. This give you peace of mind as you can still feel close to them if you are away from home on business or at work.

This is a great idea as my husband regularly works away from home and so can say goodnight to Joseph and even watch as he drifts off to sleep. It's like my husband gets to have a virtual cuddle with his little boy.

The Hubble app can capture those special moments directly to your device with the free, manual in-app video recording and image snapshot features. The video unit has a secure data encryption so you know that it is just you viewing the footage.

You can also make sure that their room is just the right temperature with the room temperature monitoring and also receive free alerts whenever things get too hot or too cold.

Not forgetting to mention that the parent unit is rechargeable so you can take it with you from the livingroom to your bedroom without having to faff with plugs. The unit also has a range of up to 300 meters and has an out-of-range alert for if you go too far away.

I love it. I mean I really love it. Using this monitor has made the bedtime routine, and even nap time, mush easier as I can see exactly what Joseph is doing when he wakes and have sometimes even managed to get him to drift off by either talking to him through the two-way communication function and the lullabies.

The lullabies are also a godsend for when I need to quickly jump in the shower. I can bring the parent unit into the bathroom and place it on the shelving unit to keep an eye on him whilst playing the lullabies to keep him calm whilst I'm away in the tub.

The Motorola monitor has changed how I think about the bedroom as well, not just sleeping, but I now know when the temperature is right or whether it needs to be warmer or cooler in Joseph's room. I can now pan across the room to make sure that none of the older boys have sneaked into his room. It's amazing what one little device can do!

If I had to pick out one thing that could be improved, then I would say that it would be great if it could look down a little more. That's mainly because all the units in Joseph's room are quite high and it was hard to find a place that we could sit the baby unit that was low enough to get a good view of the cot.

But overall, I think that the Motorola MBP853 Connect Baby Monitor is an amazing piece of equipment. All those functions in one handy monitor. I really believe that it has helped me to calm down at bedtime as I can now see exactly what my baby is up to.

  9. We loved our baby monitor - in fact we only got rid of it recently because it helps you to hear if the kids are sneaking about or have gone to bed like they promised! This one looks really sophisticated.
